Rest well Legend Jesse!

RIP Jesse, 2011- 24/07/2023

We are saddened by the loss of the famous nomad male lion Jesse. The Mara North Conservancy (Masai Mara, Kenya) (MNC) rangers alerted us of a male lion who was badly beaten and succumbed to his injuries some hours later, and our team could quickly respond to the scene and ID him as Jesse.

Jesse was born in the Cheli pride in MNC and MPCP first got to know him when he was still a youngster within his pride. We estimated his birth to be in early 2011. Jesse and his brother Frank left the Cheli pride in 2014, and we were the first to document the duo taking over the Offbeat pride in May 2014, after a very short dispersal period both in time and space. Jesse and Frank successfully raised one set of offspring during their pride tenure, and although all their sons have either died or gone missing, their daughters are successfully continuing the Offbeat pride. Jesse had to vacate the Offbeat pride when Frank went missing in 2016, forcing Jesse to begin a nomadic life and lived as a nomad until his death. He was seen several times in Naboisho and Olare-Motorogi conservancies, and the National Reserve. Jesse eventually ventured back to MNC towards the beginning of 2023. He ended his days where he started as a pride male, in MNC’s Offbeat area, after a fatal fight with the current Offbeat males, the Engoyanai males.

In Northern Kenya, East of Lake Turkana and parts of North Horr, lies The Chalbi Desert. It is a small desert, and the name Chalbi Desert means bare and salty. This October, we head up North to explore the Northern Frontier. On 6th -10th October we head to Chalbi Desert. Bookings ongoing.

Mt. Ololokwe, also known as (Ol Donyo Sabache) is located in Samburu East and in Namunyak Conservancy. A hike up the sacred mountain gives you the magical view of the Northern Frontier District. On 24th Sept - 25th Sept we head for the Ololokwe hike. Bookings ongoing.
