Let the hatching begin! Keep our beaches

Sea turtle hatching season is upon us!

Here are a few things that YOU can do to help make the journey to the water easy and safe for our hatchling sea turtles!

⛱ Remove all of your belongings from the beach! This includes chairs, tents, umbrellas, toys, and trash! Be sure to

🏰 Flatten those sandcastles and fill in those holes! They create obstacles for our hatchlings and prevent them making it to the water. Even a footprint can be a challenge for a hatchling sea turtle.

🌝 Lights out!! Don't use a white flashlight on the beach and make sure you turn off all ocean-facing exterior AND interior lights! Or close those curtains! Hatchlings need the night sky and moonlight to safely make their way to the water. You can pick up a FREE red turtle-friendly flashlight at the Visit Destin-Fort Walton Beach Welcome Center on Okaloosa Island.

POV: You’re a GREEN sea turtle returning to the Gulf after nesting on a Walton County Beach!!!

Oh yes she did!! 😍Happy folks!!!! We are doing some extra celebrating this week with the arrival of the ever-so-powerful GREENS!!! 🤩 These savage 😎girls are our second most common nester here, with loggerheads being the most common. Greens can weigh around 350 lbs and their crawls up to 4 ft wide!!! Woooo! We can’t wait for her sisters and friends to join in!!
