After a hard days work, why not stay at the quaint Peponi Beach Camp & Lodge for a night or two!

Peponi is working together with the Coelacanth Marine Park and Kigombe Village to organise another beach clean up!

On the 26th of March, we will visit local schools raising awareness around the impact of dynamite fishing and effects of plastic pollution.

During the afternoon there will be a beach clean up, with efforts from the schools, village, marine park and Peponi staff.
Please support this effort and join in with the clean up!

Kenya burns 15 tonnes of ivory

In the largest ivory destruction ceremony to date, Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta and the KWS have burned 15 tonnes of confiscated ivory this afternoon as "part of Kenya's policy to put ivory beyond economic use."

The ceremony might not end the illegal wildlife trade but coupled with stiffer sentences, it sends a powerful message: the illegal wildlife trade has no place in Kenya or Africa.

Its the hope we hold that one day, they wont be faced with the threat of extinction from a planet they have every right to be on!!!

We have decided to name Thandi’s rhino calf Thembi, meaning hope in isiXhosa. The name seemed to fit best given that this little calf has brought fresh hope and energy to those who struggle to secure the future of our rhino. She is a new generation of life, one we hope will never experience a poaching incident like her mother and namesake Themba.

Thank you all for your suggestions and wonderful support over the past 3 years. We can't believe that today is three years on from the horrific poaching.

The wood frog has garnered attention by biologists over the last century because of its freeze tolerance. Antifreeze-like blood lets frogs freeze and thaw with winter's whims. They endure this annual popsicle phase with help from cryoprotectants, substances circulating in their blood that lower the freezing point of their body fluids (via Iris Kronenburg).
