Travel Tales in the time of COVID: Wine Country, Central CA.
Deciding how and where to travel:
1) What is the likelihood that you will feel safe and comfortable in this place? For example, will businesses have safety protocols, will there be outdoor eating options, can you have great food delivered if you prefer not to dine in a restaurant?
2) Is there enough to do outdoors that the trip will feel fun and free for adventure? For you, that may be a walkable city, or national park. Consider the time of year: it may be snowy or rainy which would dampen or freeze your enthusiasm!
3) Are you going to feel that the way you need to get there is safe for your health? Are you open to flying and masking up? Can you drive in your vehicle? Is the place you want to stay in holding extra cleaning standards?
My daughter and I cancelled a trip to a city where we would have been inside most of the time (because of weather and what we wanted to do) and instead went to Napa/Sonoma. We explored Muir Woods: many masked even outside in the busier parts. We walked the little towns of wine country, and took beautiful drives in State Parks and the hills. This location was ideal for us.

When it’s time to travel again….

Many of us missed leisure travel during the past many months during the pandemic- and we are eager to get out there. A few things to consider when you decide where and how to go:

1) What is your health level: what if any vulnerabilities do you have that might mean you should wait?

2) What are your safety habits? Are you diligent about masking and social distance? Have you been vaccinated and boosted?

3) What is your tolerance for disrupted plans? Are you financially and emotionally ready for delays, cancellations, health concerns and possible changes in regulations that may mean your trip does not go as planned.

4) How will you handle it if you become ill on a trip?

The answers to these questions can help you make your decision. Many sites now track travel

If you have some credits on a cruise line, be sure to see whether their standards meet your comfort level in travel. Here is an updated list of the cruise lines that will require the vaccine. Editorial note; MANY PLACES YOU WANT TO VISIT WILL REQUIRE THIS!

Patience is tough. Especially when you have free time at home to dream of your next trip. Here is some promising news: no details yet on how US citizens can get in on this but hopefully we will be part of a network to participate! https://www.afar.com/magazine/europe-could-have-covid-19-vaccine-passports-by-summer?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=030121%20EuropeVaccinePassports&utm_term=Daily%20Wander%20%28Have%20opened%20newsletter%20before%29

Europe plans to have COVID-19 vaccine passport by summer 2021, but it remains unclear if that would lift European travel restrictions and allow Americans to return.
