BRAMALL HALL DRAGON CLUB

Today we trialled our brand new Nursery session at Bramall Hall and our theme was, of course, DRAGONS 🐉

The two hour session has been designed for 2-4 year olds and is delivered by Karl who was a Nursery Teacher in Manchester for many years. Class size has been capped at a maximum of ten to allow for high quality interaction and our home base is in one of the workshop rooms in the lovely new Education Suite in the old stables block. The session involves songs, number rhymes, stories, an explorer tour of the Hall, Family Trail activities, small world play and craft activities as well as a half-time healthy snack! Today we visited the 16th century Solar [aka Ballroom] for our explorer tour where we searched for DRAGONS in what is believed to be one of the only full suites of Medieval paintings in the country 🎨

BHDC will explore a variety of Bramall Hall rooms and historic themes and will also venture into the park and gardens for some nature study. It will initially run monthly but may move to a fortnightly session in the future...

We haven't had a celebration post for a while but what better reason than a fun-filled Friday of DOUBLE MAD HATTERS 🎨 at HAT WORKS MUSEUM 🎩 today!!! During the morning session our over twos first learnt how to make felt and then joined in a sewing bee, sculpted with coir and explored other textile arts. In the afternoon our under twos got messy with 'marbling', painted with scrubbing brushes and cooled down in bowls of soapy water...

COLOUR VIEWERS + BUILDING BLOCKS

Another one of the permanently available activities in our Family Trail sacks at Bramall Hall. These chunky wooden and acrylic items can be found in the Great Hall and their inclusion in the trail is inspired by the stained glass windows that can be found there. See the world in a different light. Mosaic a 'stained glass' window of your own design. Explore what happens when you mix two or three colours together. Perfect for toddlers but lots of fun for children (and adults) of all ages...

MRS BEETON 'SIT AND SNIFF' GAME

This is one of our favourite Family Trail activities on offer in the Victorian Kitchen at Bramall Hall. We've designed it for older children (and adults) to explore but bet that some of our super sensory Harris & Henry toddlers would enjoy it too 😜

The three Mrs Beeton cakes are COCONUT, ORANGE and MOCHA and the four scents are COCONUT, ORANGE, COFFEE and COCOA -> do you know which one is the odd one out?

Yesterday we hosted a grand total of 74 Mums, Dads, Grandparents and of course BABIES for our return to the Banqueting Room at Bramall Hall >>> THANK YOU 😍

Difficult to say which of the Tudor-themed sensory play areas was the most popular but we think that 'Black + White' had the majority interest? Strong contrast black and white objects are a great way to support visual development in babies but it's even more fun if those objects are in a Tudor building!!!

We've now sold out all of the places for the Bramall Hall Babies sessions in August but there are a few places left throughout September. All bookings are taken directly by the Hall on the telephone number below...

This week we're in the process of putting out the permanently available Family Trail Activities that we've designed and assembled for Bramall Hall. Some of the equipment for toddlers and older children is still on it's way but we're delighted to say that the specially commissioned BABY SENSORY PLAY SACKS are now all in-situ and can be found in whicker hampers located in:

THE WITHDRAWING ROOM
THE SOLAR

Normal admission applies to the Hall to access these activity sacks but an ANNUAL PASS to four SMBC sites is available which would be great value if you are a regular visitor. As with all SMBC sites KIDS GO FREE

On Thursday this room at Bramall Hall will be transformed into a unique TUDORTASTIC sensory play experience for babies. We will be filling the 15th Banqueting Room with heaps of carefully selected resources for our two spectacular Bramall Hall Babies sessions that day. This fascinating room is one of the oldest parts of Bramall Hall and has been used for a variety of uses over the centuries. It was originally built as a private room for the Davenport family and has housed banquets and feasts, cocktail-fuelled dance parties and even a billiards table for successive residents but now - as far as we know - it will host the only Tudor themed baby sessions held in an original Tudor building in the country!!!

For August we've already sold out both of the TUDOR SENSATIONS sensory play sessions at 10:15 and we now have just a few remaining spaces on both the BILLY THE BEAR story sessions at 11:30 if you know anyone who might be interested to make it a full house? The sessions last 45 minutes and are suitable for babies who are not yet independently walking...
