So as the big day is approaching fast, I have now put on my out of office so that I can wind down for Christmas with my family.

I will of course still be available for my clients who are either away now or travelling imminently.

I will be back at my desk for a few days between Christmas and New Year to work on current enquiries so please feel free to email any new bookings and I will pick them up and arrange a call with you.

I would just like to send a message of gratitude out as I prepare to sign off for the festive break.

Thank you so much for all your support this year - I really do value each and every booking and referral I receive so please do mention my name if the conversation turns to travel with family and friends over the Christmas break!

In lieu of sending Christmas cards to my wonderful customers this year, I have instead donated to three charities that are close to my heart;

Reuben's Retreat which supports families with complexly poorly children and families of child loss and is a chosen charity partner for Travel Counsellors.

Cancer Research UK and in particular for the Rare Cancer part of their fund raising.

Cash for Kids Midlands to try and make sure that every child wakes up to a present on Christmas day.

I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and 2022 generally. This year has been a busy one after coming out of all the COVID restrictions and have planned and sent many customers on some fantastic trips all around the globe.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for supporting me by booking holidays, planning future trips and referring me to friends, family and colleagues, it's all very much appreciated.

As we go into 2023 I wish you a wonderful New Years celebrations tonight and here's to many holidays, trips and breaks away in the coming 12 months - I'm here to help you sort it all!

Just received this great present in thanks for booking a customer’s fab holiday to Cuba and Mexico 🇨🇺 🇲🇽

Hurricane Ian sadly disrupted part of their trip, so when their flights to Mexico City were cancelled I was able to organise them some new flights, transfers and a hotel to the Yucatan peninsula in a short space of time to allow them to continue their holiday!

Always a pleasure to make sure that people’s holidays go as smoothly and enjoyably as possible even when Mother Nature has other plans…. 💨 ☀️ 🏝️

TC CONFERENCE 2022 ✨
This weekend is our annual Travel Counsellors conference...the first proper conference since COVID!
I'm heading to Liverpool first thing Friday morning, and won't be working again until Monday.
As always, I will be available for emergencies, and we also have our 24 hour Duty Office.
I'm looking forward to meeting with all of my old and new colleagues, suppliers, and very intrigued to see who will be entertaining us. Any guesses?

🥂🥂🥂 5th Anniversary 🥂🥂🥂

Well my first five years of being a Travel Counsellor have gone so fast and what a rollercoaster… 🎢

After a great start building up my wonderful customer base and booking some amazing trips we obviously hit the enourmous bump in the road that was COVID 19 🦠

The first live performance that I saw when restrictions were lifting was Jason Manford in Halifax. Part of the show was to decide who in the audience was the least essential, non-essential worker during the pandemic….the dubiuos honour of which I duly won (a bottle of wine from Jason softened the blow!).

It was a bit of a misnomer really however that as a Travel Agent I was sat around enjoying the sunshine in lockdown (I wish!) as I was very busy helping my clients to cancel or rebook trips-not just once but twice or even three times in some cases!

As the travel restriction goalposts changed so frequently I was making sure I was up to date with what was happening and facilitating and booking people who were determined to travel safely as and when they could (and even re-booking these trips sometimes!).

Along with all that I have also spent the last 19 months working part time at Sainsburys (at least I gained my ‘essential worker’ status from somewhere!!!) but have recently finished there as I now have so many clients starting to go away! 🥳 ✈️

So in all it’s been a busy few years but I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

I’m so grateful to all my lovely customers who have booked with me (and referred me to friends and family) and then come back many times to book again. Take a look at the great review left on Trustpilot by one of my longest standing clients (thank you).

They had an amazing time staying in an Ice room, snowmobiling, husky mushing, fantastic food, and even took an icy dip, amongst many other great experiences.

The traffic light system for travel has been updated to now include people who are double vaccinated and I overheard a conversation today with someone saying that they could come back into the UK and not have to test - this is not the case!
Certain countries require a test before leaving them but EVERYBODY will need PCR test once you have arrived back into the UK.
Countries on both the Green and Amber lists have their own rules and regulations so before booking anything please think.

Have you got a trip booked abroad? With more countries turning green, last minute bookings are on the up. Just a word of advice PLEASE check your passport is valid for your trip.

Your passport must:
- Have at least 6 months validity (from date of
return)
- Be less than 10 years old

“If you renewed your current passport before the previous one expired, extra months may have been added to its expiry date. Any extra months on your passport over 10 years will not count towards the 6 months needed”
The rules are now stricter for travel to European destinations following our exit from the EU.

Today marks the 4th Anniversary of me launching my Travel Counsellors business - what a four years it’s been!!

As anyone starting up a business will tell you, the nerves and the doubts are there - will anyone book with me? Is this the wrong decision for myself and my family? What have I done…

Luckily these fears were short lived and from the start I realised that I had fantastic friends, family and customers who were happy to book and share my details far and wide.

The business was growing fantastically well and then the Covid pandemic hit and the world went into lockdown - flights were grounded and travel stopped.

Now just over a year on from the first lockdown starting, a LOT has happened. One thing is for sure is that I haven’t stopped working throughout the pandemic and I even feel like I have worked harder than ever to keep up with refunds, booking and rebooking holiday within the ever-changing guidelines laid out by the government.

When we went into our third lockdown after New Year, it was very clear that travel wasn’t going to be starting anytime soon and again all the plans that had been made in the earlier Lockdowns were dashed again. Now many big trips are now booked for late 2021, 2022 and even for 2023, with people looking and hoping for a cheeky trip later this year as restrictions ease.

Goalposts keep moving but I’m keeping up to date with the current restrictions and FCO travel advice and the traffic light system. With the vaccine roll out in the UK being such a success there is hope. The over-riding message I’m getting from customers is the desire to travel and to be able to get on a plane/train/cruise and have freedom again. I feel that this time things are different and hope is there - bookings and enquiries are coming in thick and fast!

To sum up my fourth year in business, it has been challenging, but due to everyone’s support it feels that everything has come together and I feel happy and optimistic that the future is bright.

The MSC Virtuosa (maiden season) kicked off a fantastic summer of UK Cruise Staycations yesterday - this is an opportunity to get back on board and get the sea air into your lungs again and to explore the delights of the UK. Orkney

Whilst helping my daughter with her Easter homework project I learnt something new. Her project was on the UNESCO World Heritage site Skara Brae in the Orkneys which is one of the best-preserved stone built Neolithic settlement in Western Europe. It consists of ten one bedrooms ‘houses’ and was occupied for just over 600 years from 3180 BCE to 2500 BCE and gives an insight of what life was like for the early Brits!

If you’re thinking of an adventure closer to home the Orkneys make a wonderful holiday. They’re famous for the Old Man of Hoy, the Standing Stones of Stenness and Vikings Runes at Maeshowe and have some beautiful beaches. If you’ve ever seen Billy Connolly’s ‘World Tour of Scotland’, you may remember him dancing naked through the Ring of Brodgar…
For nature lovers, the islands are awash with some amazing bird and animal life including puffins, hen harriers, sea eagles, otters and dolphins.

There are numerous different ways to enjoy all the Orkneys have to offer - from a day stop-on cruise ship, ferry and self-drive, flight and car hire, group trips or being part of walking tour to name just a few.

I’ve been lucky enough to have been to Ireland a couple of times and have thoroughly enjoyed both visit.
Me and friend Crona traversed Ireland on an amazing road trip classic starting in her home town Dublin. There were many highlights including having a drink in the Guinness brewery and driving around the ring of Kerry.
