Bimini ferry started operation in 2006, first with a very seaworthy former Norwegian coastal ferry which many fondly remember. When Bimini Superfast started service to the island, we directed our loyal customers to this large, and fast ship, although we where skeptic to whether the island could sustain year around operation, as our experience with a 80 passenger vessel was that Bimini was and perhaps still is a summer island in the public eyes. Now, Bimini Superfast have come to the same conclusion, It is sad for the island, as it needs a year around sea transport and freight solution, but on the other hand, the residents and property owners just like when we started in 2006, all under promises of a bright future, it fades away off season, and Bimini does not attract enough tourists off season to sustain a large vessel operation. One can now wonder about the build out of hotel end amenities that was created for year around service, can owners accept their use only as a 6 month occupancy, and will airlift alone be enough.
Again, we remain skeptic, we believe the island deserve a cruise line that can call upon its harbor as a destination, a cruise line that by its own ability have passengers in all seasons not just in the summer. Bimini can be a cruise destination in a package and not just a transport end-point. An air bridge itself does not solve the real problem, where is the passengers coming from and how do one attract them.
Resort World have so far not been very good listeners, but of course everyone have the right to do all the mistakes themselves - even the multi million dollar ones.
For our loyal web customers, a partner cruise line have offered a special discount package, traveling on the "Grand Celebration" from Palm Beach to Grand Bahama Island on a two days cruise with option to stay, much like the itinerary vacated by the Bimini Superfast.
