One of the main takeaways from the Ancestral Wisdom- Ecuador documentary is this sentence that mamá Rosita Colta said while we were visiting the San Luis de Otavalo Hospital: “El Cuerpo de Sagrado” the body is sacred.
From the beginning of our visit to the hospital and documenting her work, she set the tone with this statement and their approach towards care to their patients. The hospital at San Luis de Otavalo had established a culture with a focus on exchange and care.
To learn more about their philosophy, watch the Ancestral Wisdom Documentary. Link in our bio

GUAYAQUIL

Mi tierra, mi ciudad. Caótica Perla del Pacífico.

My land, my city. The chaotic and controversial economic force of Ecuador. The Pearl of the Pacific.

✅Burned 5 times by pirates in the 17th and 18th century, still survived, and was rebuilt.

✅Best thing about it, is its people (if you ask me). We are a complicated species of humans. We live in year round heat under an inclement Ecuadorian sun, heavy rainfall and humidity . SNARK and “sabiduría criolla” is our branding. It is never a dull moment with us and we do not give up, always looking for make our way around every obstacle no matter what it takes. Jaded, joyful, party animals, funny, hard and smart workers. That’s us.

✅ The city of Julio Jaramillo 🎙, José de la Cuadra ✍️ , Enrique Tábara 👨🏻‍🎨 , Beatriz Parra Durango 🎙 , Jorge Delgado 🏊🏽‍♂️ , Presley Norton Yoder 🗿, Jenny Estrada 📖, Rosa Borja Icaza 📄 , Andrés Gómez & Pancho Segura 🎾, our current president, Grupo Tranzas and Rico Suave himself. Which ones are your favorite ?

✅ Our cultural composition is as diverse as any major city in the world. Mainly European, Lebanese and Asian influence with indigenous people.

✅Francisco de Orellana was only able to finally found it successfully in 1535 thanks to the blessing of chief Guayas and his love Quil from which the city gets its name. History says that attempts to establish a Samaniego settlement were constantly repelled by local native nations of the time until the collaboration of these two leaders was established.

T R A V E L in the time of COVID ✈️ You. have. options.

A lot of people have been asking how I managed traveling with mask & other restrictions.

1) Testing. I refuse to have any swab put up my nose or in my cheek. Yes, I needed a PCR test to travel to Ecuador and then another test to enter Galapagos & then one to return to the U.S. I insisted each time that I had to spit in a spoon. But “liability,” they said.
“I promise I won’t sue you.”
But “it might come back inconclusive” they said.
“That’s on me,” I countered.
It worked each time. 👍

2) Flying. ✈️ I have a coconut carbon filter mask that I’ve been wearing on flights for years. It filters out jet engine fuel bleed and other toxins. I don’t feel like I’m compromising my values by wearing one on the plane. Plus, I get to go where I want. 😌

3) Masks and disinfectants. 😷 In some public parks, shopping districts, and even in the Quito airport, there are portals (like metal detectors) that emit a spray to “disinfect” people & their belongings. I walked around them (rather than through) each time. No one ever stopped me. (Maybe I’m just that 🥷 haha)

I also have a “pseudo mask” that looks like the real deal but is not. Air flows freely. I wore it now & then to get past “enforcers” & then would remove it promptly after leaving their line of sight. 👀

Overall, I maintained a positive, loving spirit and outlook. I expected the best and encountered the same, everywhere I went. 💫

Subscribe to my YouTube channel 🎥 (link in bio) b/c I will be posting Ecuador vids there.

And, in the meantime, tell me where you hope to travel next! ✈️ And don’t get discouraged! I’m convinced we will always have options!

P.S. Thanks to for putting this trip together! 🔥

P.P.S. This is NOY Abbey Road. Any guesses on the name of this street in Quito?😁

9:39am in planet Galápagos 🌋🏝🪐🌎

Off the coast of Isabela Island, July 3rd, 2021.

✅Islands made from Volcanic Eruptions. 🌋

✅There are endemic (unique) plants 🌱 and animal species.

✅The Islands Inspired Charles Darwin Theory of Evolution and natural selection. 🦭🐋🦈🐠🐬🐢🐍🦎🦀

✅ UNESCO World Heritage Site # 1 since 1978

*The Islands are not on a different planet; but it definitely feel like you are in alternate universe when you are there. 😉

“Allow nature to show you stillness”

One of the most appealing attributes Ecuador has are its natural resources which ironically are always compromised.

There are innumerable amount of water sources everywhere in Ecuador: waterfalls, rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, oceans, deltas. Ecuadorians are used to water, it’s sound and healing properties. There’s even a town with 7 falls within a radius of 600 miles.

Parque Nacional Cotopaxi was one of the first protected areas of Ecuador along with the Galápagos Islands.

We visited “el Coto” with respect. As soon as you enter the area your mood changes, possibly because of altitude but also because of the impressive presence of this Andean giant. Respect for the volcano.

There are many attractions within the park. Amazing wild animals and vegetation, the Limpiopungo Lagoon the natural spring waters running down the scape with immense rock 🪨 remains from previous eruptions.

There is in average one eruption per century recorded as the Cotopaxi is still active. 🏔🌋

Pictures taken while touring Ecuador with for her ancestral traditions documentary. I have never seen the Coto this clear before.
