I do most of my fly fishing for bream with an 8wt. Probably my limited casting ability, but I find it easier to cast larger, bulkier bream flies off a #8 than a #6. You guys?

I started off using smallish flies in a couple of the estuaries I fish regularly (Crazy Charlies in size 6-8 mainly), but now use big, bulky things exclusively. This 44cm fish grabbed a Bream Busta tied on a size 2. They don't mind chasing flies up to 10cm long.

My favourite fly for big bream is "Bill's Bream Busta". Tied originally by good mate, Bill Farmer. Bill's is at the top and another, tied by Lubin Pfeiffer, is at the bottom. Both tied on size 4 hooks.
