Activities consisted of: eating, reading, swimming, sleeping, petting hotel cat & dog.

The kind hotel owner + staff would have been more than happy to book day trips for us but all we wanted to do was chill + we had everything we needed right there - sunshine, beach, pool, yummy food, and even a library. They did help us book fabulous massages right on the beach. 😍

A huge part of travel is how it makes us feel.

No one embodies that more than my guest, Travel Advisor, Kevin Lowe.

After going blind at 17 years old, Kevin Lowe was determined to continue to travel.

He founded his own travel agency and continues to vacation around the world.

Kevin shares his unique perspective on travel, how the most meaningful benefits of travel don’t rely on sight, and why you should, in his words, just book the dang trip!

We also talk about...

How he stays positive in the face of adversity

What was worse than the thought of going blind

How he went from not knowing what a travel agent was to opening his own travel agency

How being blind helps him get to know his clients on a deeper level

The country he fell in love with

His top 3 travel destinations

Advice for people with disabilities who want to get out there and travel

His trick for making sure he commits to traveling

Social impact travel is a growing trend, but for Kimberley Sevcik, former human rights journalist turned child and family therapist, it’s always been about fostering a deep connection and having a meaningful impact in the places she visits.

In this episode, you’ll hear about ways to connect with communities on your travels through your hobby, skill, passion, or pro bono work, the importance of having cultural humility, and how to foster a true exchange of ideas and skills.

We also talk about...

How she used her journalism background to teach women how to tell their stories.

How to truly partner with and empower communities and the importance of letting them lead.

How to use your hobby, skill, passion, pro bono work to connect with a community.

How not to be a “savior” when it comes to engaging with other cultures.

How’s she evolved her approach to travel and gained more cultural humility and sensitivity.

Ways to educate and inform yourself about a place before visiting a country

The impact of donating money vs volunteerism.

The pros and cons of working with local non-profits vs international groups.

How to set an intention behind your social impact travel.

Quick trip to San Diego for a business conference. Besides the conference, all we really did was eat! 😆 Here are a few recommendations:

Little Italy
🍝 Monello - in a cute neighborhood, ambiance, great food and service, cocktails were ok.
🍰 Extraordinary Desserts - the name speaks for itself.

Gas Lamp Quarter
🌮 La Puerta - yummy carnitas and margaritas
🍦 Cali Ice Cream - family-owned, friendly, so many flavors...
☕ Hobb Coffee - love their tagline, "Coffee is Dope"
☕ Copa Coffee - trendy coffee shop, note their lattes are extra milky so you may need a double shot

Near Waterfront Park
🍹Top Sail - great views, seafood & cocktails, near Little Italy

Today was a picture perfect day in SF. Sunny with a slight breeze. Great for climbing the Filbert St. steps. If you've never heard of these steps, it's one of SF's lesser known treats. Located just below Coit Tower, these steps take you through beautiful gardens, offer a great view of the bay, and a bit of a workout. It's a fun way to get to the waterfront. Check it out the next time you're in SF!

Need plans for the weekend?

If you haven't made Memorial Day plans yet, check out my latest blog where I show you the best places to check out in one of my favorite places in the world.

Is there a place that you love so much that you go back to again and again?

That makes you feel both at peace and energized?

For me, that's always been Point Reyes National Seashore.

It all started in my twenties and my sister asking me to go on a road trip with her to check out this area.

We hit the road on a Friday, spent the weekend hiking, and would rest our heads at night in the only hostel within the park.

Ever since that first trip, I've returned many times and I can't imagine ever getting tired of this place.

In fact, this was the last place I stayed before the world went on lockdown in 2020.

If you've never been to Point Reyes National Seashore, make a point to discover the magic of this place.

There's rolling hills, redwood forests, estuaries, and the food...oh the food...

Happy Memorial Weekend!

Have you heard?? Italy is open to U.S. citizens again!! You must complete mandatory COVID testing:

1️⃣ 72 hours before you leave the U.S.
2️⃣ At the airport before you board
3️⃣ When you arrive in Italy.

Two negative tests and you won't need to quarantine when you get land.

Don't forget that you'll still need to get a test before returning back to the U.S.

As summer approaches and international travel remains limited, many of us will likely be spending our vacations in the outdoors.

Unfortunately, for marginalized and BIPOC communities accessing the outdoors and feeling safe and welcome can be a challenge.

That's why I found my conversation with Chad Brown, activist and conservationist, so helpful.

Chad is on a mission to break down barriers of fear that many BIPOC and LGBTQ+ experience in the outdoors, protect public lands and wildlife, and mentor the next generation of leaders and advocates for preserving nature.

In this episode, he shares his inspiring story of how he went from Pratt Institute graduate, to becoming a successful photographer in New York to finding himself homeless, and battling PTSD.

How he found healing in nature and why he founded his non-profit organizations to promote equity, mentorship and conservation.

We also talk about...
-The magic of the arctic circle and why it draws his soul back every year.

-What he’s learned from indigenous peoples about seeing nature through a different lens.

-The importance of having BIPOC people in your lives so that you can understand how they feel in the outdoors.

-How white allies can show up with grace.

-His passion for training the next generation of leaders and advocates for endangered land/wildlife, build confidence.

And don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss an episode.

Kealan Casey has lived most of her life in international cities like D.C. and New York which led to her love of travel and appreciation of different cultures. Before moving abroad, Kealan was a marketing director for the iconic children's show, Sesame Street. She is now living in Switzerland with her husband and two small sons and is an editorial contributor and content creator for the family travel community, Bébé Voyage.

Kealan and her husband have explored over 40 countries together but it wasn’t until she moved abroad that she was confronted by ideas of identity and what it means to be a half Mexican and half Irish American living in Europe.

We also talk about

The challenges of moving to a new country especially at the start of COVID.

How she and her family have been able to continue exploring despite being on lockdown.

How she’s embraced Swiss life and been able to explore the country in unexpected ways.

The one place you should NOT miss if you go to Switzerland that is also kid-friendly.

Tips for embracing life in a new country and building community.

How to find purpose and support as a trailing spouse.

How living in a different country has influenced her parenting.

How as an American and multi-racial woman she’s had to confront ideas around race, nationality and identity.

Letting go of imposter syndrome and not being enough when it comes to being a Latina.

The power of sharing your story and helping others feel seen.
