The role of yoga as an intervention for treating mental health disorders, most notably depression, has been well documented. In his paper on the integration of yoga in psychiatric practice, B.N. Gangadhar provides an extensive and far-reaching overview of yoga’s value in clinical medicine to many more psychiatric health populations such as PTSD, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, OCD, pain, addiction and cognitive impairment.
B.N. Gangadhar was former director and senior professor at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in India and is responsible for initiating yoga services for the clinical application of mental health and neurosciences at the National Medical Commission.
In this freely available article he gives us a clear evidence base for anyone wanting to integrate yoga into psychiatry practice or convince mental healthcare facilities of yoga’s safety and efficacy in treating mental health conditions.
