Riding through the highlands - Scotland’s Glenfinnan Viaduct and the Jacobite Steam Train. Very old school. Very slow travel. Very doable. I'll never forget my own journey with the train with my daughter when she was 8. We both loved it!

Travel Myth: I CAN EASILY BOOK THE SAME TRIP ON MY OWN WITHOUT USING A TRAVEL AGENT.
Although travel advisors have access to all of the same outlets you would use when looking to book travel, they also have access to exclusive pricing and package deals that are most times not available to the public. Your travel agent also has more leverage in helping out in situations such as hotels claiming to be booked, when in fact they may still have rooms available that are on hold for travel professional's reservations. So when everyone else is telling you “No” your travel consultant can help turn that to a “Yes.”

MYTH BUSTING: IT IS EXPENSIVE TO USE A TRAVEL AGENT
First I have to address something I've seen floating around typed by armchair internet warriors: that travel consultants should NEVER charge fees.
That is simply BS.
For highly customized trip designs the commissions one might earn are usually nominal compared to the massive amount of work that goes into a very involved multi-city itinerary with many transport options and special requests.
I charge a Plan-to-Go fee that varies according to the complexity of the trip. My time and expertise are valuable, as are yours.

That being said, the fee really depends upon the company, but I would say the average fee is quite marginal.
What it buys you is peace of mind, relief from stress, and insider help to get the exact kind of travel you really want.
You can always ask me upfront what my fees are and decide for yourself if it’s worth it.

Second: You know what else is expensive?
Flying half way around the world to find out that the place you booked is a dump or is closed and having to scramble to find accommodation.
Your guide never shows up.
You miss your connection, then miss your cruise.
You can't drive a stick shift car and that's all the rental company has (it's happened.)
REEEEEAAAALLLL freakin' expensive.
Also, it is important to remember that a lot of online booking sites, such as Orbitz and Expedia, charge a booking fee as well, they just aren't transparent about it....
