I earned my JR Ranger badge @ Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. It was more work than I thought it would be. The ranger asked me so many questions. It’s still summer!

We drove America’s Loneliest Highway across Nevada yesterday & saw some cool stuff. And we got ice cream.
I kept track of how many other travelers we saw on the loneliest 200 miles:
Cars/trucks (some with campers)-180
Trucks-30
Motorcycles-11
RV-11
Emergency/Fire trucks-3
UPS truck-1
It doesn’t seem that lonely.

A Gold Rush–era highway paves the way to the West’s last frontier.
We rode our bikes over to Kailua Beach to watch the fireworks. Kailua Town has their show on Flat Island so that everyone can watch from the shore. It was a good show. And it was short. Ben’s bike tire had a blow out, and he is too big to ride on the back of someone’s bike, so I had to ride on the back of my dad’s bike. I called him my horse. 😂

We kayaked out a lot of miles today in the ocean. Sam & Ben each had their own kayaks, but I had to ride with my parents in a ginormous kayak. At least I didn’t have to paddle. We all fell out every time we tried to land on a beach. But we landed on a island beach with monk seals! It was a bird sanctuary, so there were a lot of random eggs everywhere too. It was a fun day. Now we are hungry. And sunburned.

We went on a catamaran cruise today & did some more boogie boarding, which are both way better than hiking.

We love Mike! We were pretty stoked to meet him. We are really glad that Diners, Drive-one & Dives introduced us to Mike’s Huli Chicken Truck (now a bus, on a plot of land with many other food truck offerings) so many years ago. The huli chicken & Kalua pork are worth the drive around the island, but the atmosphere is very island-y also. Mike is super awesome! He has a lot of “aloha in his heart.” Armstrong & Armstrong Mike's Huli Chicken
This snowy mountain appeared on the horizon & we all debated what we should call it. So, I asked Siri “What is the snowy mountain in front of me?” And she KNEW! 😳
Anyway, here is a pic of Humphrey’s Peak in Flagstaff, AZ from the road.

We found a fun place to eat in Albuquerque last night. The ice cream place gets mixed reviews from these roadtrippers, 1.5 in favor, and 3.5 who won’t return. This spicy chocolate concoction scored a half vote & Ben’s espresso ice cream thing scored the only whole vote. It was a fun place to watch the sunset & to eat some stuff with green chilies on it. State #6 in 2 days.
We’re eastbound & down. (Actually more northeastbound, but that is less lyrically appealing.) Kelley & Stacey
In Corpus Christi, TX, there is this ginormous aircraft carrier that is now a museum on the bay! It is awesome & I got to spend the night on it with my Cub Scout pack. It was so cool, even if we didn’t sleep at all. ~Wildabeast

This is how we slept last night. Hardcore!
Adventure time. We get to meet our dog sled teams now.

So, we made it to Northern Tier. Tomorrow we head out into the backcountry.
We haven’t been road tripping much since summer, but today we are heading up north with fellow scouts & friends for a dog-sledding & ice fishing adventure. It’s going to be awesome!
So, our neighbors in the campground have a kennel full of kittens, Egyptian Maos. This is a first for us. They are bringing the fox to the yard. -Ben Kelley Devens Armstrong Stacey Armstrong
Wildabeast: When backpacking, it is important that you never leave your friends behind. You don’t want them to miss out.

Our cabin had plentiful snow along the river bank, so we built foxholes & had epic snowball fights every day. It was awesome!!
We have found snow!!
There are a reported 332 manatees wintering in this park right now. I think we saw all of them. And one alligator.
This was a fun spot for breakfast. They bring pancake batter & eggs to your table where you cook them to your liking.
And it is in De Leon Springs State Park, so there are Springs with manatees.
8 years old is the perfect age to visit Legoland.
We found manatees!

We found a place to see the salmon jumping. There was a bottleneck at the waterfall. It was so cool!! We took videos. In this one you can see lots of action near the end. #ArmstrongAdventures2017 Kelley Devens Armstrong & Stacey Armstrong thought it was pretty awesome too.
We hiked to Exit Glacier where I got to show off my parkour skills & my mad hops! -The Wilverine #ArmstrongAdventures2017
Bear encounter @ Sleeping Giant Provincial Park in Canada. The mama bear started walking toward the playground where the Wildabeast & I were playing, so I started yelling at her to move away. Meanwhile her cub was climbing a nearby tree. They took off when we all started yelling at her, but they didn't stay gone long. Sadly, they have learned to eat from the trash rather than look for food in the wild. #ArmstrongAdventures2016
We needed some groceries, because we haven't cooked tacos in way too long, so we found this cool river to play in on our way back to the dunes. #ArmstrongAdventures2016
