It was 15 years ago that Sir Paul McCartney gave his 3000th concert - in St. Petersburg, at Palace Square! This square has seen many things: the zars, the Revolution and its fall, live chess games and the Victory parades... On 2004, a concert, that had been a dream for millions of Russians, took its place there!

It is not all about St.Basil's Cathedral in Moscow!
St.Petersburg has a gem of its own! 💎
Look at the marvellous Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood and admire! 😍
St. Petesburgers are furious: this winter the streets are full of snow and city services can't clear it all away. But someone took advantage of it: two prankers tubed down the Nevsky Avenue and posted a video about it.
St Pete Private Tours cautions: tubing down a busy road may be fatal (and the driver who assisted the prankers was fined). What we recommend is to see Nevsky Avenue on a private Must See's Tour, as it's amazing all year long and surprises happen here pretty often!

The cranes are flying above the canal, as in a famous war song*… These days St. Petersburg is decorated so in honor of the 9 May, commemorating the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War (as a part of WWII). This is a national holiday and it’s widely celebrated among Russians. A lot of witnesses to those horrific days and the war participants are still alive, and on this day we thank veterans for their deed and lay flowers on victims’ graves. The city is bursting with red carnations and little black and orange ribbons of St. George.
One of the oldest and the most grandiose traditions is the V-day parade demonstrating military equipment. In Petersburg it’s held on Palace (Dvortsovaya) Square and starts at 10:00. The entrance is open for invited guests only; the others may admire military technics on the square after the parade is over.
However, many citizens don’t accept this tradition being sure that the millions, spent on the parades, could be spread by the government among veterans to support them and thus, thank them indeed.
Still, there’re a lot of heart-stirring traditions on this day. For example, “the National Victory Choir”: at noon professional singers and the audience get together at the square in front of Kazan Cathedral to sing together Russian war songs.
At 14:30 there’s a ticker-tape parade of veterans in retro cars. Today there’re 9800 WWII veterans living in the city. About 1000 will participate in the parade; some of them come from abroad!
Several years ago “the Immortal Regiment” movement was started: people follow the main city street holding the portraits of their relatives gone, who took part in the battles or suffered from the war. The march begins at 15:00.
The Rostrum Columns will be lightened for the rest of the evening. At 22:00 the V-day salute will be fired from the territory of the Peter and Paul fortress – it’s seen better from the bridges and the embankments nearby. By the way, the subw
- My Chinese have already learnt how to dance!
Why coming to St P in winter and early spring: 1) the views are awesome; 2) museums are almost free from tourists; 3) you can dance in the museums!
To make sure, watch the video: in the circle you can find Voladios in a green sweater dancing with Onika, his little sister - they're the children of our guests from China.
The family has had the tour to the Catherine palace with our guide Helga (Olga) and learned how to dance Mazurka on the way!
Are you lucky enough to get a free dancing lesson inside a museum? Check it out by booking a tour: http://www.tours-stpetersburg.ru/tours/pushkintour
Salute in Leningrad 1944
Today St. Petersburg remembers the siege of Leningrad: it was lifted on 27 January 1944, after 872 horrible days.
The siege of Leningrad had a great influence on the everyday and cultural life of the city – that’s why it cannot be not mentioned on tours. The strongest and most impressive evidences of that time are still kept as a memory and can be found; mostly – on our Must-See’s, Peterhof and Catherine Palace tours http://www.tours-stpetersburg.ru/tours
On the video you can see exactly the salute given on the end of the Siege of Leningrad on 27 January, 1944 from a documentary «Блокада» (Blockade, 2005) by Sergei Loznitsa.
Scarlet Sails 2017 - light, water & pyrotechnic show
Don’t worry if you haven’t been in St. Petersburg on 23 June and skipped Scarlet Sails: on this video you can see the main 20 minutes of the show from all the best points! Light show, fireworks and, of course, a large boat with scarlet sails coming down Neva River. Everything’s accompanied by classics and rock classics (such as Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Radiohead, The Animals) performed by symphony orchestra and little international music competitions winners! One of the few examples when a school-leaving party welcomes the spectators of different age from different countries
