Peak Ascent's story started like many great adventures do... A group of friends getting together, shooting the s**t and sharing some brews. Peak Ascent came to life around the one idea of creating an adventurous travel community. A group that wasn't focused on solely one persons journey, but everyone's. It's a place where people from all over the world can link up, showcase the the cool s**t they

do, and even organize a meet up! A place to welcome people on a hike, or what ever the adventure may be.

Anyone else find it entertaining to throw sticks into the river to see how far they’ll go? If you do, you’d better call Becca with the good hair. 😘 - Bryton, the Performer

Our trip to Elk Falls was an incredible one! I’ve always found myself so comfortable around water, the double rainbow was a bonus 😉🌈🌈

Oh Canada! 🍁🌲.

Weekend wedding crashing on Vancouver Island! Of course we had to sneak in a little side adventure to Campbell River’s suspension bridge!
Cheers!

In a month I’ll be finished working here in Colombia and onto the next adventure. This country is charming and beautiful and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to experience the Latin America vibe with beautiful countryside all around you!
Cheers!

An interesting hike over giant boulders up into the jungle takes you to an archeological site similar to the much larger site referred to as the Lost City which is a 5 day trek nearby.
There is a native village in Tayrona park that continues to live they way they always have. They are actually the ones responsible for taking care of the park and every year the park is closed for the month of February to allow for both human and natural repairs to take place.
Unfortunately the villagers aren’t exactly fond of tourists... so we didn’t spend much time in the village.

All along Tayrona there are beautiful beaches, each slightly different. Some have calm water, some reef and huge fish to explore with a snorkel, while others have large wave breaks and undertow that make swimming quite dangerous. There is even a n**e beach if that suits your fancy (photos not included...).

Another iconic national park in Colombia is Tayrona National Park on the Caribbean Coast. The park is a cool mix of thick jungle and beautiful beaches. Compared to Cocuy is a lot easier to get to. The entrance is one hour outside of the City of Santa Marta and the bus fair is under $3.

After the climb we were rewarded with this bizarre ecosystem. A giant slab of rock, dotted with little pools of water and Espeletias (aka frailejones). Which are actually part of the sunflower family, and are found in Venezuela,
Colombia, and Ecuador.

However we were also rewarded with gale like winds and horizontal rain... we were in the cloud at this point so the visibility was garbage and we couldn’t see anything past the 50m of rock in front of us. At 4700m (15,400 ft) is was hard to breath and I couldn’t feel my forehead, hands, or feet anymore from the wind and rain. Needless to say we were pretty miserable out there. We ended up turning back without being able to see Púlpito Del Diablo which would have been the highlight of the hike. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t feel like sharing that day...

El Cocuy National Park is a fickle one. Years ago it was famous for a 7 day backpack you could do throughout the whole park. However the park decided people weren’t treating it with enough respect and closed the park indefinitely. A few years later the park re-opened with some new large changes in place. Now there are only three set day hikes to take, and you must be accompanied by a guide.
We woke up at 3am to hopefully beat the clouds that come onto the mountains mid day. But as you can see, the blue sky was behind us, and the clouds were already waiting for us ahead...

This past weekend I made it to the mountain town of El Cocuy. It’s a quiet little town, all painted green and white with clay tile roofs and cobblestone streets. The bus ride here however was not so tranquil... 11 hours through the night on washed out curvy switch back roads, with areas that were half covered by fresh land slides, and other areas where the road disappeared and the bus drove across the creek bed. We discovered once we arrived that the road had been closed for 7 hours the previous day due to the dangerous landslides.

Playa Blanca just outside of Cartagena is a popular spot to lay back, relax, and soak up some sunshine. Beaches are also one of my favourite places to spin poi while walking a gorgeous sunset!

I wasn’t able to get a photo, but nearby is a place where they have bioluminescent plankton! You can go on a tour for less than $10, they take you to the area and you can jump in the water and splash around causing the water to light up! Highly recommend it!
