We have used BioShield in our two homes for a very long time. An amazing natural product. Their customer service is impeccable. This is their #3 oil stain and finish on our pentagon table. First coat was #5 penetrating oil, then sanded before two finishing coats, rubbed and sanded.

The finish of any great undertaking is always tough. I was exhausted & so ready to get ashore, have hugs, a hot shower, dry bed. These are the things Kirsten in the Golden Globe Race is feeling right now. This is the most mentally toughest time. So close, yet so far. The light airs are frustrating as it impedes progress to be ashore. It's easy to make a mistake, but our instincts are also at its sharpest now. Kirsten and I spoke about this mental toughness a few years ago when she was preparing her boat in Prince Edward Island. We spoke on the phone for over an hour that this race is more about her mental toughness, then the reliability of her boat, than anything else. She has executed both spectacularly.
When she comes into contact with the first spectator boats, it will be emotional as the reality of what she has accomplished may not yet have hit home. As the spectator fleet gathers, and she sees the crowd ashore, it is overwhelming emotionally. It's a forest and we cannot see the trees. There are no words to describe the emotions she will feel when that finish gun goes, but she will feel that emotional release for decades to come. It never leaves us. That fist hug from her loved ones is incredible. Writing this 23 years after my coming ashore is still emotional. My solo BOC race was life changing. Her Golden Globe victory is life changing. The aftermath of the race is tough too. We have to reinvent ourselves, cope with new focuses as leading into the race was all consuming.
My hat is off to you, Kirsten, as what you have accomplished is so huge.
It is a 3 leg race... Getting to the start line, executing the race successfully, building a new life post event. Very few people can comprehend the many facets of this journey. It's much bigger than just a race. This is also access to the most unique group of human explorers and adventurers of mankind. Welcome Kirsten. You have earned your place among the legends. I hope South Africa will recognize everything you can bring home. You turned hope into reality. Our country needs to refind that hope it once had, and like your success, needs to build a new reality based on honesty, respect, hard work.

Jacques has worked for us for over a decade full time, but there was nowhere further for him to grow beyond our business. He went part time, started doing construction projects and set up a small selling goods from his motorbike. With a microloan and seed capital from us, reaching him the basics of inventory management, and margins, we are setting him up to run his own business. He will sell his wares via his bike in the region, returning to us to help him track his sales with the he gathers.

Within the next 3 weeks, El Gecco will cross the Atlantic again from Portugal, via the Canary Islands, maybe the Cape Verdes, back to the Caribbean. We have owned her for almost 19 years and still love sailing on her. Jeff Schionning is one of the best designers out there and having kept up with the latest designs being built, El Gecco is still one of the Simplist designs to sail and to maintain.
