Join us on Fri. Dec. 6th for a festive evening and movie night featuring "The Polar Express." This event is being held at the beautiful reception hall "The Event on Sunnybrook" (located on the property behind Sunny Hill Golf Course, 3734 Sunnybrook Rd.), graciously donated by owner Joe Repasky.

🕠 Doors open at 5:45pm
🍽 Dinner menu: Chicken tenders, mac & cheese, green beans
🍪 Cookies and hot cocoa
🎅 A special visit from Santa
✂️ A craft activity

Tap Talk tonight (10/15) at North Water Brewing.

Learn about the Clovis Stone Point, a remarkable innovation for its time that spurred the survival and expansion of humans in what is now Ohio."

Metin Eren will return to Tap Talks on October 15 at North Water Brewing to tell the story of a technology invented 13,500 years ago that led to the extinction of the wooly mammoth. Learn about the Clovis Stone Point, a remarkable innovation for its time that spurred the survival and expansion of humans in what is now Ohio.

Dr. Eren is Associate Professor of Anthropology at Kent State University. He’s also a Research Associate at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and studies how technology helped hominins survive on the landscape, especially those who enter into new and unknown territory. He has led research in North America, Europe, and Asia, and engages his students with fun experiments.

According to Dr. Eren, “At the Kent State University Experimental Archaeology Laboratory (KSUEAL), we reverse engineer ancient technologies to figure out how they were made and how they function so that we can better understand how culture and technology evolved the past three million years.”

Along the way, Dr. Eren has acquired an unusual skill – flintknapping. With 22 years of regular practice and experience, he is able to replicate some of the most difficult flaked stone technologies used by ancient peoples.

Tap Talks was initiated by Don Schjeldahl, the creator of North Water Brewing, as a way to bring the community together for conversation about life in Kent, Kent’s history, and issues of the day that impact us all. It’s also a chance to enjoy an array of locally-brewed artisan ales and beers. Tap Talks are sponsored by Kent Historical Society and scheduled monthly at 7 pm at North Water Brewing, 101 Crain Avenue in Kent.

Those who attend will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Eren and learn more about life in Ohio thousands of years ago.
