When a bee lands on a flower, the hairs all over the bees' body attract pollen grains through electrostatic forces. Flowers that bee like to pollinate are often bright, aromatic and have lots of nectar. This is a dahlia from seed that our bees pollinated last year.

A friend of ours called about some honey bees in his barn. Turned out to be a monster colony! We estimated over 7 pounds of bees. Not only did we add a great hive of gentle bees to our apiary, we removed nearly 35 pounds of beautiful honey from the barn walls. 2-1/2 hours of work condensed into 36 seconds.
First honey harvest for 2024!

🍯 Guess how many pounds of honey we pulled and it’s yours!
These plants are from the dahlia seedlings I collected last year. Our bees pollinated them so they will be one of a kind. Can’t wait for them to bloom and see the hard work of the bees!
Did you know a honey bee only makes approximately 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime? I try hard not to spill a drop of honey when bottling it. 🍯
We harvested 366.8 pounds of honey!
A little summary of honey harvesting: We remove the honey frames from the hive. Usually get a few stings with this step 😂 Then we uncap the frames and put them in our extractor. The big metal drum in the video. The extractor spins the honey out of the frames. For the first few years we used a hand crank extractor and that was exhausting. Then we open the door and let the honey run through two filters to get the comb out. Then we bottle it!
Check out this landing! Looks like this bee has a case of the Mondays 🤣
The honeysuckle is exploding around our house and the bees are going bananas over it!
Fun question: Does anyone what plant/tree the honey bees love to forage on early in the spring? (It’s not honeysuckle!) Clue…it produces the very light colored, floral/vanilla tasting honey.
Some very exciting news! It’s swarm season. We started off the year catching our biggest swarm yet and the earliest we’ve ever caught!
As always, if you see a swarm please call, text or message us. If we catch it we will bring you a free jar of honey.
