An Araucaria forest inside Conguillío National Park. This tree is commonly called the Monkey Puzzle Tree. This is also the National Tree of Chile. Riding through this forest is like riding through Jurassic Park. Its a wild place and in winter, with the snow all around it is truly beautiful.

Endless horizons, Ruta 40 Argentina.
Getting closer every passing day to summer time and riding season! This road starches the entire length of Argentina, but the sections in Patagonia get the most attention. Maybe due to the crazy winds that we can get, or simply these types of views. It's kinda hard to imagine from a photo, but it's big!

So these photos are of Wyoming USA, at the very last section of the WY BDR. Wyoming has bentonite mud and it's some sticky heavy stuff. It can clog up tires and stop motorcycles with low fenders in their tracks.

You know where else they has mud like this?
Right here in Patagonia, many roads in southern Argentina including sections of Ruta 40 get this way when it rains and it's a damn mess! What are the best options when you get a rain that is heavy enough to turn the road like this in Argentina? In my opinion, after some real life test.
Wait till the sun and the wind come out after that rain storm and the road will be dry within hours or less.

If you're interested in reading about our Wyoming BDR Ride head over to motopatagonia.com and read the Patagonia Life blog post. It's short and informative in case Wyoming is on your ride list.
Cheers!

It's been a while since I wrote an article on the Patagonia Life Blog. So here is a short write up about our off season (from Patagonia) ride back in the USA's least populated state - Wyoming.
Our ride on the Wyoming BDR. Follow the link to read.

Special thanks to my brother at Moto Wyoming for getting us bikes and riding the route together. For sure worth going to ride this route, if you like being in remote areas this is one of the best in the lower 48.

Some rest stops are cooler than other. This is Lago General Carrera, a VERY large lake we ride around on both our Carretera Austral Ride and our Ushuaia & Tierra del Fuego Ride. These places are an overload of amazing and cool.

Just wrapped up an epic 8 day traverse of the Wyoming route south to north. Great group of riders through remote and challenging terrain, Wyoming is the USAs least populated state and has millions of acres of public land..really a special trip. We rented bikes from and they were perfect for this ride.
If you're looking for a fun and remote route in the US, the WY BDR is for you!

Read the whole post for a funny and inspiring story.

So, last summer we got a call from a young Argentinian rider who needed to buy an Armadillo Gas Bag for his ride from Patagonia to Alaska.
No problem I said, stop by the shop and pick up whatever you need, while he was there we decided to help him wash his moto, fix a few things and just get ready to keep riding north.

I told .adv Bro when you make it to the USA please call my brother . He can help you with whatever you may need once you're in the USA.

Well, It turns out Iñaki made it to the US right at the same time I would be here to ride the Wyoming BDR route with my brother.
I sent him a WhatsApp, why don't you just meet us and come ride the whole route with us and also experience the 4th of July here in the land of Freedom - Wyoming USA!

Iñaki did just that, dude shows up, ready to ride with his battle hardened GS which he rode here all the way from Ushuaia Argentina!

Here is the funny part.
- For those Argentinians who follow us you will say yeah Obvio Gr**go Daniel.
- For those who have Argentinian friends you will say yep that's how it is.
- For those other Latins you will say yep, that checks out!

I asked Iñaki one question which all riders get after such a huge ride....
What was your favorite country after having ridden nearly all the Americas?

Iñaki looks at me like bro are you really asking me that?
Argentina is my favorite country! The best country of the world!
Haha. I had to laugh, because yeah he is Argentinian and that was Obvio Che!

If you want to follow along on his epic solo journey find him here - .adv

He is a friend for life.

The Monkey Puzzle Tree or the scientific name Araucaria is a tree we have here in Southern Chile that is very cool to see, and even cooler to ride through an entire forest of them. It is also the National Tree of Chile. If you come to ride here we will absolutely be finding these interesting trees along our path.

When riding remote areas solo its always hard to pair down your tool and spares kit, you always convince yourself of a what if scenario that makes you think you need to bring way more than you should.
How do you figure out how to get your tool kit and spares down to a minimum while still having what's needed to get your self out of a jam?

For many years we have been the Giant Loop Moto distributor for Chile. It's been a great relationship with the US based brand as we have been able to outfit our fleet with the best bags available for Patagonia AND offer an awesome product for the local Chilean riders who are looking for a well made bag and local support to ride their back yard from Arica to Tierra del Fuego.

In this one photo you can see my entire T7 is set up with well made Giant Loop Bags.
All the bags you need without the extra weight for an extended ride through Patagonia including their very popular Armadillo Bag which is designed to carry extra fuel, a necessity here in Patagonia, especially with the Tenere 700 as the smaller tank is it's only down fall in remote areas.
