If you are planning to travel anytime in 2025 and beyond, please read this message carefully. Beginning this year, there are new travel documents that are being required for both domestic and international travel. This is also a great time to check on your passport, if you have one, and see how much time you have left before needing to renew. Many countries require you to have at least six months prior to expiration to visit. Save yourself the emergency renewal and take care of it early!! Plan now for the following to get ahead of the rush!
First, for domestic air travel, beginning May 7, you will need to have a Real ID. Even if your driver's license doesn't expire yet, it is still required for air travel. If you aren't sure if yours is compliant, look at your ID and see if you have a star in the upper right corner. If you need to renew your license and get one, be sure to check what documentation is needed (may vary by state). If you have ever changed your name, you will need the documentation that indicates that. Alternatively, if you have your passport, you can use that to obtain your Real ID (along with additional documents).
For international travel, there are two new requirements. They are called ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) and ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System). The ETA began being required on January 8 to visit the UK. You will now need to complete this application. This would be England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, etc.. You can apply before your trip (small fee required). This application will be good for two years from completion, unless your passport expires before that time then this will expire as well. The ETIAS is being required to visit 30 different European countries, including all the popular locations. This is a visa waiver (small fee required) will begin being required for travel May 7 or following and the application will be good for three years unless your passport expires before then.
These documents do not replace regular visas, they are just for short visits to the European countries.
Plan ahead and take care of these things now if you are planning to travel. Need help? Just reach out, I am happy to provide additional information!!!
Word of warning...there are many fake sites popping up indicating they are the sites needed for these documents and obtaining your personal information. Make sure you are completing the forms on the actual websites for these documents. I can help pass that along if needed!
HAPPY TRAVELS!!!

Alaska Cruise - Ketchikan: we didn’t have an excursion planned for Ketchikan because we wanted to just explore on our own and we absolutely did. This was a super long port day which was great. Picked up some Alaska merch while shopping, explored Creek Street, walked up Married Man’s Trail, checked out the salmon ladder, and had the most amazing King Crab Leg. It was massive and soooo good! Pricey….but delicious!! Highly recommend! Super fun day!!!

Skagway, Alaska was such a cool, tiny town. It was the original location of the Gold Rush and we learned a ton on our excursion. The little town of Skagway is quite small, they told us they had the largest graduation class they have ever had this year and that was 7 graduates. And I thought I grew up in a small town! 🙂 The excursion we took was about 6 hours in total and we saw so much. We took the one and only road that travels through that area stopping along the way to see some of the most breathtaking views. We drove up to the Yukon in Canada (and yes we had to have our passports with us as we crossed the border). Up in the Yukon, we went to a little place that served us lunch and had sled dog displays and we were able to meet sled dog puppies. Loved it! We journeyed back to the ship and before the ship took off for the night we had a special guest that gave a talk and question/answer. It was Ryan Redington who won the Iditarod in 2023. My youngest was on cloud 9!! They study the Iditarod in 4th grade here locally and and Ryan won the year my youngest was learning all about it. He even met us and took a picture with my kiddo. It was a very cool experience to hear all about the race and ask all kinds of questions (like he lives in a neighborhood of mushers and there are about 1000 dogs that live around there!!). It was a great day in Alaska!

Alaska Inside Passage - Juneau
We had an amazing day in Juneau. The whole trip we had just perfect weather. It was mostly sunny and in the 60s so you could wear a short sleeve or a light jacket and be comfortable. We did a whale watching excursion for our day. They picked us up and drove us out to the area our boat would be sailing from. We saw so many bald eagles along the way. At one point, our driver told us to look over at a tree and notice all the white golf balls sitting on top of it. It was full of them, each one an eagle. It was crazy! We drove past the Mendenhall Glacier and got out to our boat. We saw a large pod of Orcas and followed them around a while and then followed a humpback for the remainder of the time. They all were amazing to watch. I couldn’t post pics and videos together so I tried to capture the whales in the photos from my videos. After our excursion we walked around the town a bit before heading back on the ship. It was an awesome day!

Alaska inside passage cruise…day at sea. Our cruise had two days at sea for our 7 night cruise. It was the first full day and the last full day of the cruise. We took advantage of this to take in the scenery and explore and have fun on the ship. We played pickleball, shuffleboard, mini golf, the boys went to the teen clubs, had ice cream, had pizza, and more. We had the drink/internet package on the cruise because I had to work some and my oldest two boys were taking online summer classes through a local college and needed to do some work during our trip. We don’t drink, but we do fancy a good Diet Coke so we took advantage of that often! I will say I wish we had the option of a non-alcoholic drink package like some other cruise lines offer, but it was an all-inclusive that had the internet, beverages, and 2 specialty dinners (more on that later) that was included in the cost. We enjoyed the calm, more restful days at sea!!

Alaska cruise highlights: Princess Cruise Line. Princess is rated the #1 Alaskan cruise line year after year. They offer nearly ten different cruise ships with multiple itineraries. While Princess can have a reputation for being most a more mature crowd, there were 180 teenagers on our sailing. I don’t know numbers of younger kids since I don’t currently have any, but there were plenty of them too! 🙂 We chose the Ruby Princess which is a bit of an older ship but met the needs of the days we needed to travel, etc… it exceeded every expectation. We had an aft facing balcony which you can see which one by the arrow in the last picture. It had amazing views the whole trip. Spent a lot of time sitting out there! Our kids had an inside stateroom across the hall and it worked out perfectly. From the longest amount of time in each cruise port, to the best “parking spot”, Princess was a great choice! We sailed out of Vancouver, and had stops in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. Fun fact…due to Canada law every Alaska cruise is required to make a stop at a Canada cruise port, so for Alaska cruises a passport is required for travel.

Hey everyone! I know it’s been awhile, but I have so much to share with you! This page kind of took a back seat to our summer adventures this year and now things are more settled and I can share it all with you. Our family took an Alaskan cruise back in June and I will be sharing all the details with you over the coming days. If this is a bucket list trip for you like it was for our family…DO IT!! You won’t regret it!!! To get you started, here is a pic of the magnificent Dawe’s glacier in Glacier Bay/Endicott Arm. Stunning!!!! More to come….

About Wishdrawals Travel - Kiersten Hagquist

Hello! My name is Kiersten Hagquist, and I live in Brownsburg, IN with my husband, Mark, and our three boys. My first trip to Walt Disney World was when I was seven, and I loved it ever since. When Mark and I were deciding on a honeymoon location, I convinced him (although he was incredibly reluctant) to take part of our honeymoon at Disney World. That trip is when the real love of Disney began. Mark also fell in love with Disney and started planning our next trip before we even had finished our honeymoon. We have celebrated many milestones at Disney from Graduate school graduation to taking each our boys the first time when they were each 18 months old, and of course, being there at Christmastime. Our three boys all love Disney and are always asking to go again and again. We have stayed in a variety of the Disney property hotels and tried many of the wonderful restaurants to get the full experience.

Mark and I were able to expand that love again when we traveled in 2018 to Disneyland in California. So many exciting and new adventures awaited us, and we cannot wait to travel there again and take our boys.

Seeing that we are also a Harry Potter loving family, trips to Universal Studios Orlando have also become an enjoyable trip for us. We became the Disney experts to all our friends who were constantly asking our advice about their own Disney trips as well as those traveling to Universal. It just made sense for us to take the step and I made the choice to become a Travel Concierge specializing in trips to Disney World, Disneyland, and Universal Studios.
