Since this journey began more than three years ago, Mary has greeted every iteration and interaction with open arms. We couldn’t have created this experience without her singular, spectacular voice. Earlier this month, WalkUpArts donated to The Okra Project - an organization which connects Black Trans chefs with Black Trans people experiencing food insecurity to provide free meals.

In furtherance of their mission, and in reaction to the particularly vicious and under acknowledged violence that continues to be directed at the Black Trans community, The Okra Project has launched mental health recovery funds to continue providing vital support, “to honor Nina Pop, Tony McDade, and the many Black Trans people who have been murdered by state sanctioned violence.” They are dedicating $15,000 towards the launch of these initiatives, and are asking supporters to match that figure with their donations.
