Meet Thomas Wynants and Ashlee Anvik in this week's . This Belgian-American couple runs the US-branch of Belgian outdoor furniture brand Extremis from their headquarters in Michigan. They have such an amazing story, and I had a blast interviewing them. And yes, Thomas looks a lot like his dad, the legendary 😃

Craft beer and food, good enough reasons to drive to Saline. Salt Springs Brewery is housed in a historic former church, built in 1899. The dining room windows are stained glass. They fill the room with beautiful light. Good food, great beers and nice ambiance.

The Fisher Building in Detroit's New Center has an impressive neighbor on the other side of the street. Completed in 1922, this beautiful neo-classical building served as the headquarters for General Motors till 2001. Now called Cadillac Place, it houses several Government of Michigan agencies (and the fashionable concept store ). The enormous building by architect Albert Kahn is absolutely stunning. The lobby has tons of marble, beautiful elevator doors and don't forget to look up and admire the ceilings.

Another tour today and yes, the Fisher Building (1928) is a must-see in Detroit. This art deco skyscraper is a masterpiece by Albert Kahn, also known as the architect of Detroit.

Today I did my first Detroit architectural tour of 2022, with great Belgian guests. From Hart Plaza we admired Minoru Yamasaki's elegant skyscraper One Woodward.

Thanks but no thanks.

The American Motors Co. (AMC) site will be demolished soon. The 1927 complex with an art deco tower and a huge three-story factory building is iconic but apparently beyond repair. The site will be redeveloped. Took some pictures today before the building is gone.

Side view of The Ambassador Bridge, connecting Detroit with Windsor (Ontario, CA). On Sunday there was still no traffic due to a week-long blockade by truckers in Windsor, but today the bridge reopened. The bridge is the busiest US-Canada border crossing. Approximately 10,000 commercial vehicles cross the bridge each day.

A Dose of Detroit by Trui Moerkerke
Trui is a Belgian journalist who moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan with her family in the Summer of 2016. Not the ‘domestic goddess’ type, she decided to make the most of the waiting-for-the work-permit-time. She became fascinated with Detroit and studied to become a tour guide.
There is so much to see, so much to tell. As a journalist and former editor of Knack Weekend, Trui knows a thing or two about storytelling.
Trui is a member of Via Americana, a unique tour guide alliance of six European women who fell in love with their new hometowns in the United States. They offer custom-made tours that take their visitors to well-known landmarks, but also off the beaten track in Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC.
