FORM Art Festival - Falmouth Princess Pavilion, Falmouth Fri 20th - Sun 22nd September

The county of Cornwall has long been a source of inspiration, refuge, and community. Both shaped by and simultaneously shaping the creatives who call it home. Artists and makers here are influenced by the rhythms of the landscape that surrounds us, inspired by both the raw dynamism and the gentle ebb and flow. We believe the art created in Cornwall is unparalleled and deserves to be celebrated by both familiar and new faces.

2024 is the third year of our annual festival which celebrates the visual arts heritage and vibrant creative culture of Falmouth. FORM offers a series of captivating events such as talks, workshops and exhibitions in venues across the town, including in a 3-day art fair at Princess Pavilion. Here you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the work of hugely talented Cornish artists and craftspeople and purchase directly from these small creative enterprises.

FORM is a not-for-profit organisation spearheaded by Vicki Glaister of Inspire Makers and Ann Morgan of Morgans. Already championing both established and emerging Cornish talent through their own independent galleries in Falmouth, they are also keen to provide a platform for people at all stages in their creative journey. This festival introduces artists and makers to new audiences, supports the growth of Falmouth’s creative culture, and offers opportunities to learn more about the visual arts.

Redruth International Mining & Pasty Festival - Fri 20th - Sat 21st September

Friday 20th Sep
Mining Day: Friday 20th September – 4pm – 7pm
Will and Hetty from Cobweb Tours and the Redruth Festival Band will meet at the Miner statue in Redruth Town at 4pm, to leave for 4:30pm. The evening will culminate at Wheal Uny at approximately 6.00pm with the 2 chimney stacks being smoked in honour of the Miners in Cornwall and abroad. They are hoping to have some special guest join them for the tribute. Please note, the route and mining terrain isn’t level and unfortunately not accessible for all and they would recommend suitable footwear. All timings are approximate depending on numbers on the day and the event is weather dependent.

Saturday 21st Sep
Pasty Day: Saturday 21st September – 10am – 4pm
The festival continues with a day filled with live music, street food, interactive stalls, pasty competitions, workshops and a fun new addition to the festival. Stalls will line Fore Street and there’ll be pockets of entertainment and interactive events across town.

Sunday 22nd Sep
Mining Pilgrimage Service: Sunday 22nd September, 10am – 12pm
The Service begins at:
10.00am – at the Wheal Basset Stamp House and then promenades to Wheal Euny Engine house after which it moves to
11.30 -St Euny church for the formal service
This is a deeply moving and spiritual service which remembers all those who died and suffered as part of the industrial revolution in Redruth. It is a natural conclusion to a weekend of celebrating the marvel that is Redruth’s heritage. During the walk poems are read and songs are sung.
Some members of the congregation, particularly those who do not want to walk, will head directly to St Euny for an 11.30 start. After the service, there will be PASTIES and other refreshments are served within the church. The service will be attended by members of the town council among others.

Tinners Festival - Godolphin Cross, Helston - Fri 6th - Sun 15th September.

The National Trust are celebrating England's biggest festival of culture and heritage from 6-15 September by offering you, free entry for the duration of this event.

As this festival coincides with their monthly House Experience week, you will be able to explore Godolphin House between 7-12 September, and the gardens and outbuildings throughout the festival.

Discover the rich and vibrant history of the ancient site, learn more about those who lived and worked there and explore the tranquillity of the gardens.

In partnership with Godolphin Cross Community Association, there are also a series of walks and talks taking place. This includes an Archaeology Talk in the King's Room from Charles John on Sunday 15th September. This is free but booking is required.

Welcome to Gorsedh Kernow
Gorsedh Kernow – the Gorsedh of the Bards of Cornwall – exists to maintain the national Celtic spirit of Cornwall. The tradition of preserving Celtic history and culture through poetry, song, dance, music, art and spoken word stretches back to the story tellers – the Bards of ancient Celtic countries.

The bards of Gorsedh Kernow, who have each sworn allegiance to Cornwall as a Celtic nation, help maintain the national Celtic spirit of Cornwall by studying their own Cornish history and the Cornish language and literature, art, music, dance and sport. They actively promote strong links between Cornwall, other Celtic countries and the wider diaspora, and help promote a spirit of peace and co-operation among those who love Cornwall.

Gorsedh Kernow, which means Cornish Gorsedh, exists to maintain and give expression to the national spirit of Cornwall as a Celtic country and in particular:

• to foster good relations between Cornwall and other Celtic countries;
• to promote co-operation and goodwill between those who work for the honour of Cornwall;
• to encourage study and use of the Cornish language;
• to encourage the study of Cornish history, literature, art, music, sport and related subjects, and the publication of works on such subjects;
• to support the holding of the Cornish Eisteddfod, known in Cornwall as the Esedhvos;
• to hold an annual Gorsedh Kernow Bardic ceremony.

The range of events is wide, open to the public and mostly free of charge, taking place in locations close to the current Gorsedh ceremony site.

Festival events usually include a Book Fair (LitFest – with authors from Holyer an Gof) , a ceilidh, a concert, a bi-lingual Sunday Evensong and the opportunity to try out a bit of the Cornish language for yourself. Often there are talks, walks or demonstrations of local interest.

On Gorsedh Saturday itself, the impressive ceremony is augmented by colourful stalls on the Gorsedh Field. Here you may browse among stalls offering Cornish crafts, foods and drink, you can find information on local organisations and societies and also learn about Cornwall’s native language, Kernewek.

The whole experience gives you the opportunity each year to visit one of Cornwall’s beautiful, historic but maybe lesser-known towns and to explore Cornwall’s heritage and culture in a friendly, happy atmosphere of celebration.

Cornwall Folk Festival - various venues, Wadebridge - Thurs 22nd - Mon 26th August

Located in an intimate town setting in Wadebridge, North Cornwall. We start with a proper Cornish Nos Lowen on Thursday evening, and continue with three evenings concerts, plus two additional evening concerts in a second main venue. Daytime Sat-Mon outside at the FAR stage featuring acts from across Cornwall and the Southwest, plus music in town centre streets and bars.
Locations are Wadebridge Town Hall, John Betjeman Centre, The Goods Shed, FAR Stage behind Wadebridge Wines, Lower Molesworth St, Molesworth Arms, Saltbar @ The Saltbox, The Ship, The Swan, Wadebridge Social Club

Cornwall Folk Festival brings top local, regional, national and international artists to the North Cornwall town of Wadebridge each August Bank Holiday weekend.

It’s a town-based festival, started in 1973 and last year reached their 50th outing. Wadebridge is a small town, and they use its existing spaces and venues, all of which are within easy walking distance.

From around midday on the Saturday to Monday, they run the outside FAR Stage (behind Wadebridge Wines in Eddystone Road, PL27 7AL); around nine varied acts each day from Cornwall and the Southwest, with music from the traditional to alt-folk and beyond. There’s food, and they run a bar featuring local beers, ciders and gin, plus wines and soft drinks. This space can accommodate around 300 people, and entry is £5 per day per person, or £10 for families.

Each year, they program over 100 hours of music, dance and workshops across all our activities. That’s just over four days of continuous music, squeezed into this perfect long bank holiday weekend in the lovely town of Wadebridge!

They rely on the support of many local people, organisations and businesses, and budget to make a small surplus each year to ensure the longevity of the festival, to continue its contribution to the North Cornwall economy, and most importantly. to provide a place in Cornwall for people to enjoy great folk music of all kinds, to support the careers of musicians, and as a platform for aspiring performers and local and regional talent.

New for 2024, Quantum presents a delightful new adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s much-loved tale — The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck .

Prevented from hatching her eggs at the farm, foolish Jemima goes in search of a nesting place in the forest and soon she meets a charming ‘gentleman’ who offers her the perfect nesting place in his wood-shed.

But why is his wood-shed full of feathers and why is he asking her to collect the herbs for roast duck?

Back at the farm, the Collie-dog, Kep, puts two and two together, but will he be in time to rescue Jemima from her fate?

Please be aware that assistance dogs only are permitted at this event.

They are back this summer with a brand new adaptation of the much-loved Beatrix Potter Tale, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck.

Deer Safari - Boconnoc Estate, Lostwithel - Wed 14th August 10am & 1pm

Come join in a fascinating wildlife adventure at Boconnoc Estate. Hop on board the tractor-trailer with their Deer Ranger who will lead you on a safari through beautiful grounds to the ancient Deer Park, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe these graceful creatures in action.

Boconnoc Deer Park is known as far back as 1540, Henry VIII’s map of coastal fortifications showed Boconnoc surrounded by a deer park. It is abundant with beech, oak, ash, and willow trees. It is home to 188 lichen species, including the only known British site for Porcina Hibernica. The Deer Park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is considered the best old-growth southern oceanic woodland in the South West of England.

The Safari will start in the Stable Yard with a talk all about the Deer, their habits and the work that goes into running the Deer Park, following this visitors will be taken to the Deer park on a tractor-trailer to observe the Deer herd.

Refreshments will be available at the Stable Yard Café and visitors are very welcome to bring their picnic and enjoy some time in the games and craft rooms.
