We’re delighted to announce that the Trad Cruise is back for 2024 and we will be hitting the rolling waves of Bantry Bay with our friends at Bantry Bay Charters for some high jinks on the high seas!

Under the guidance of Captain Brian O’Rourke, it’s great to have Bantry Bay Charters rowing in behind us and being part of it again this year. You’ll get to experience the magic of the bay, the sights and sounds of the Wild Atlantic Way, maybe catch sight of a dolphin and see Glengarriff from a whole new perspective. And all whilst listening to tunes by some of the festival’s top musicians.

There will be two Trad Cruises on the Saturday June 22nd
& Sunday June 23rd …. Both departing from Glengarriff Pier.

Join us for an NPWS BIOBLITZ event at Kilkeran Lake and Castlefreke Dunes next Monday 20th May (8:30pm-10:30pm) and Tuesday 21st May (9am-6pm). Full Programme below.

The event offers opportunities to learn more about the biodiversity at this Special Area of Conservation (SAC) during Biodiversity Week 2024.

The aim of the BioBlitz is to identify as many species as possible, from the smallest bugs to the largest mammals, across a variety of habitats from sand dunes to sea, coastal lagoons, reed beds and woodlands.

On hand to help will a number ecological experts who are specialists in the fields of birds, botany, bats, lichens, seaweeds, bryophytes, newts, reptiles, moths, spiders, hoverflies and marine mammals. The BioBlitz basecamp will be at the Fish Basket Café, Long Strand.

A total of fifty SACs across Europe will be taking part in the Natura 2000 Day BioBlitz 2024. There’s an element of competition to see which site will record the most species, but it’s mostly about fun, learning and public participation so come and join us next week!

West Cork Music has long held a dream of a dedicated venue in Bantry. A purpose-built hub for its three summer festivals and year-round education and entertainment activities for visitors and the people of West Cork.

WCM has proposed the Bantry Music Centre project. A new building, based on a ‘whole town’ approach, the Centre will complement the wonderful array of existing venues in the area.

With your input, West Cork Music can build a Centre that reflects and responds to the local community and the visitors who attend and support the festivals every year – West Cork Chamber Music Festival, West Cork Literary Festival and Masters of Tradition.

We're very excited to announce our next exhibition: Fragile Island by Catherine Weld.

Opening next week, Friday 13 May at 5pm. All welcome to attend!
𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 is an on-going body of drawings and paintings by West Cork based artist Catherine Weld. It explores the experience of being in the complex and beautiful but fragile and vulnerable natural world as it comes under increasing threat from changes in climate and the ravages inflicted on it by man. The finished work may be seen primarily as paintings, but this exhibition at Working Artist Studios also includes many mixed media pieces, ranging in scale from 15cm to 150cm square, that are the result of the artist’s wider process; they come from walking, collaging, reading, scribbling, doodling, talking, sitting, thinking, trying not to think …
