Beginning on March 1, 2023, a parking tag will be required to park ANYPLACE in Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

The parking tags are tied to a specific vehicle and tag #, so you cannot move them. All motor vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, UTVs, etc.) must have a permit.

Permits must be displayed.

There are 3 types of tags:
Daily - $5.00
Weekly - $15.00
Annual - $40.00

Tags cannot be replaced or upgraded.

Having a tag does not guarantee that you will have a parking spot. There are no limits on the $ of tags issued.

On NPS fee-free days, parking passes will not be required. For 2023, the dates are:
January 16: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
April 22: First day of National Park Week
August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
September 23: National Public Lands Day
November 11: Veterans Day

You should be able to buy online, and onsite in the National Park Visitor Centers. They expect to have unattended kiosks/vending machines available. Other locations may be available, including possibly local retailers, in the future.

Tags are not required for driving through the area or who park for less than $15.

Tribal citizens coming to the park for traditional activities will be able to use special passes distributed to American Indian Tribes through their Tribal leaders.

This is the first time any public fees have been charged for access to the park. With the immense popularity, it is understandable that a means of controlling traffic, parking, and adding to the park's budget is put in place.

Great Smoky Mountain National Park has more visitors than the next 4 most visited parks combined! But charges no entrance fees.

Starting today, December 1, the Gatlinburg Trolley System is resuming its Red Route to better help facilitate the transportation of citizens and visitors in the downtown area.
