Jacksons Endeavour We are the Jackson Family - Cathy, Mike, Lilli and Greg. We've decided to hit the road in our Volkswagen Eurovan on an overland adventure around the world.

We are the Jackson family - Cathy, Mike, Lilli and Greg - and we have taken our life 'on the road' in our Volkswagen van. We left Canada at the end of August 2016 and plan to be on the road for about two years. We update our page with short posts regularly and our website/blog with more detailed write-ups on a less frequent basis. Thanks for following our 'around-the-world' family endeavour.

Lilli on Asia: Good food, fun experiences and it was cool to backpack and hostel stay instead of camping. I enjoyed learning about world religions and visiting many temples.

21,525 km, 65 days and 10 countries. Asia was fantastic and although we missed having Koko, we found backpacking to be easier then anticipated. The people, the food, the scenery and the wildlife all contributed to an awesome adventure as part of our endeavour to get around the world. A big thanks again for all your hospitality to Nermin, the Shahs, Priya and Gopi, the Levers and the Courcouxs. Great friends make great travel even greater.

Orangutans! We visited the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary near Sandakan, Borneo, where orphaned orangutans are shown how to survive in the wild. Because orangutans stay with their mother till about 7-8 years of age, if orphaned, they are pretty helpless and need to be taught how to live in the jungle. We visited the outdoor nursery (super cute) and a feeding platform where those orangutans that have been recently re-introduced to the jungle can come and get food if needed. A highlight of our travels for sure.

In the jungle of Malaysian Borneo. Our view from our cabin in the jungle with Mike working. We did a cruise down a saltwater river and spotted a salt-water crocodile, stopped at an island for a drink and some sunset shadow poses.

Explored a cave in Halong Bay. It was huge and we were able to get a great education on stalactites verses stalagmites and how they are formed. Our guide was slightly repetitive with the information. The kids also got to rub the lucky turtle head and secure their good fortune with a little cash. Counterintuitive, but we are still anticipating a windfall.

A day in Hanoi. Short cyclo rickshaw ride, a visit to Hanoi Hilton, an Obama combo for dinner and an evening water puppet show. Crazy good day. It also included two rounds of bubble tea.

Hanoi, Vietnam. Hoàn Kiếm Lake, located in the Old Quarter at night, when it is closed to traffic. Ngoc Son Temple is a pagoda sitting in the centre on a small island. We wandered while sipping our bubble tea.

We have to admit it. We are addicted to bubble tea. We have now had bubble tea on four continents (one of the first places was actually Nicaragua) and we are very much enjoying Ho Chi Minh for the numerous bubble tea shops (we also hit 3 different shops in Phnom Penh). We now have our order down so well we are not intimidated at all by self serve ordering machines. We need the stainless steel cups and straws Sarah Lever!

Out to dinner on our last night (and, well, out to lunch that day too 😀) with the Courcouxs. We had a great time visiting and thank them so much for their hospitality while in Phnom Penh. Dim sum lunch and Italian dinner with Mike’s meal made at the table. We did miss Jade our last night as she was at a sleepover, but we got a great pic. Thanks guys!!!

Phnom Penh. Once again we got to meet up with friends, this time with the Courcouxs currently in Cambodia. We descended on their home the night of Anne-Sarine’s birthday. Their kids, Marin, Hanae and Jade made an awesome meal to celebrate their mom. We were so honoured to partake in the celebrations. Also pictured is their dog, Boo whom Greg of course loved instantly.
