A behavior that's quite common, yet seldom witnessed, an impala ewe consuming her placenta shortly after giving birth.

Not only does the impala gain from the nutrient-rich placenta, but this act also serves to avoid attracting predators to the vulnerable newborn. The placenta contains hormones like oxytocin, which can enhance milk production.

Nature is truly a marvel, and what a blessing it is to live amidst this magic every day!

I spent the afternoon observing a pride of lions as they dozed lazily under the sun. Then, out of nowhere, a slight movement in the vicinity piqued the curiosity of one of the youngsters. As I looked more closely, to my surprise, the source of the distraction turned out to be a tortoise. The curious young lion was briefly entertained by this unexpected visitor, but soon, his mother, perhaps sensing it was time to continue their journey, prompted him to leave the tortoise behind and follow the pride.
