👻HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! 👻

This rather terrifying face is that of an old Ghost Turnip from Fintown in Donegal circa 1943. The term, Jack o’ Lanterns, takes it's name from the Irish folktale about Jack, who was welcome neither in Heaven or Hell and was destined to wander the countryside forever, with just a lantern to light the way. The story varies from region to region with one suggesting that he roamed the bog in search of a child that was murdered.

The tradition is that of scaring away the evil spirits by placing a carved out beet vegetable or Pumpkin with a candle inside. This would deter any ghosts from coming near your door and the superstitious belief in the underworld and the bad luck it could bring you.

The ancient pagan belief of Samhain in the Gaelic festival falls on the 1st of November marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or "darker half" of the year. It is also the Irish language name for November.

One of the most famous spirits believed to roam Kilkenny Castle is that of Lady Margaret Butler, an ancestor of Anne Boleyn. Another eerie legend tells of a governess who allegedly appears by the castle windows. It’s hard to believe, but our last tour of the season is on the Irish roads this week! We are also giving our brand new vehicle a great spin for the last tour too. Thanks to the powerhouse that is Lee and to all our team for working so hard this season to bring this all together. 💪

Our Story

Founded by an entrepreneurial Irish guy named Seanie Power who had adventure and a deep love for Irish culture in his blood, the very first 1 day outdoor adventure tour around the Kingdom of Kerry was created in 2008.

In 2010 after a few years circling the island of Ireland and a few lessons learnt along the way, Sean decided it was time to introduce this innovative style of travel to the whole island of Ireland where the real adventure was waiting to begin. Irish Experience Tours was, and still remains, all about taking adventurous travellers further off the beaten track to jaw dropping beautiful & remote destinations. When you share these unique adventures with a great group of people from all over the world... well, that is when the real spirit of Irish Experience comes in to play!

In the years since, we’ve grown by leaps and bounds, building our own fleet of buses, and expanding our small group fixed tours to cover all corners of the country.
