I have had a great fascination of the outdoors and a hunger for adventure since as far as I can remember. While I was working for EDC, I joined the 505 2nd Search and Rescue of the Philippine Airforce on August of 1998. During my Search and Rescue training I have aqcuired several important and lifesaving skills like Basic and Advanced Knot Tying, Basic and Advanced Rappelling, Basic First Aid, CPR
, Water Safety, Jungle Survival, Rope Rescue, Water and Swift Water Rescue. I am currently a certified member and Technical Rope Rescue Instructor of ONE RESCUE EMS. Our big break came when a local celebrity Diane Castillejo Garcia came to the tourism office which was conveniently located in the same building as our training facility. She was asking who might be able to guide her and her crew to go into one of the mabinay caves for her show on ABS-CBN Sports Unlimited. Through this expedition I met yet another adventurist, former classmate and local guide Jeffrey Dasian whom I trained and shared my knowledge of caves with. Through time I learned that the mabinay caves have already been explored by a Belgian-Dutch Cave exploration team in 1989-90. Fortunately I was able to get a hold of their contact information and asked for their reports on all the mabinay caves they have surveyed and mapped. By the grace of God their response to my requests were positive and they willingly gave me their reports of the caves along with some knowledge of mapping. The Belgian-Dutch caving association was very pleased to know that somebody in Negros Oriental shared their interest and is willing to continue the work they have done here. After that me and my team trained on how to map the caves and we have mapped about [number of caves] caves in Mabinay. Currently, we are also exploring and mapping caves in Bayawan City. We are always looking for new caves to explore and map and share with you guys. All-in-all we have mapped about [number of caves] caves and still counting.
