It may feel like it today, but winter is NOT over!

The latest forecast for Thursday and Friday's winter storm continues to point to an increasing chance of heavy snow potentially greater than 6". To make matters worse, winds will be blowing around at 25 to 35 mph when snow is falling.

Rain/Snow may begin as early as mid-day Thursday, with the best chances for heavy snow Thursday night into Friday.

Remember, this storm is still 2+ days away and the forecast and locations of heavy snow WILL change. Focus on the potential impacts of the storm and stay informed!

Thank you all for a beautiful Saturday here on the Iowa Great Lakes! The fish on all 3 lakes were cooperative! Tomm. could very well be the last day for atv traffic and move to foot traffic only. We will keep posting conditions as we have them. If you have any ice condition reports from today- PLEASE comment in this post. Our accesses are getting worn down and ice is getting softer on top. Ideally, we should have another month of ice fishing, but that is not going to be in our plans. Yes, it sucks for us & cuts the season short!
Therefore, we are closing out ALL ice fishing merchandise, great deals and only just a few ice shacks, electronics, ice suits & augers left. I shared & posted several pics on our wall this evening, scroll back through & congratulate everyone on their success today! I would say head our way tomm...
Open 7am-5pm

Ice fishing may be a favorite pastime for many Minnesotans, but Mayo Clinic doctors say it can also be more dangerous than you realize, sometimes even fatal. Thursday, they set out to prove it with the help of a mannequin they call Gus...

We all know how much ice fishing has evolved over the last 30 years. We all went from ice pick wooden poles and hand-lining, to amped up rods and reels that are more sensitive than many open water combos. Warm clothes and buckets for seats have been traded in for Fish Traps with thermal fabric …

The Iowa Great Lakes is an ice fishing destination for both Iowa anglers and out-of-staters. However, there is one species that is most often overlooked: northern pike. Both Big Spirit Lake and West Okoboji have excellent pike populations. The good news is this. If you like fishing panfish in the we...

HAPPY WINTER GAMES WEEKEND on IOWA GREAT LAKES!!!!!

We had the entrance plowed open at Southshore/Spillway ramp, two swipes through, but not the parking area, we highly advise NOT to drive a truck off the spill way until it hardens up. If a plow can swipe the parking area for us, that would be helpful to make more room!

Sunset Park has also been plowed open, however advise atv or snowmobile only.

Hales Slough, entrance plowed open, it does appear trucks & permanents are on at there.

Walleyes & Perch on Big Spirit Lake, takes a lil time to get the perch. Stop in for more info on spots & what to use!

Bluegills, Crappies, Perch ON West Lake Okoboji! We have plenty of Minnows, Red & White Wigglers, Waxworms, BEER, Chips, Drinks, Eats.. & everything you need!

If you have any updates on lake conditions please let us know.

We still have up to 18" of good ice on Big Spirit Lake.

TRAIL PASS: We sell trail passes $17.50 for a Non-Resident. You do need a Trail Pass for your Snowmobile & ATV on our lakes.

OPEN 7am-5pm Daily
Fish must be in before 4pm, we will not accept any fish after that.

Have a great weekend!

One day after nearly a foot of snow blanketed the Iowa Great Lakes, and plans for the Winter Games now include SNOW! This photo is of Smiths Bay at around noon today. Already snowmobiles are taking advantage of the newly fallen snow. It will definitely make the "snow" events much easier. A word of caution, however, the open water around bridges is still there, and word is there is some open water between Pillsbury Point and Pocahontas Point on West Lake. The trouble is the layer of snow will now cover seams and heaves. I looked at lake accesses this morning, and they are pretty sloppy, so vehicles need to proceed with caution. Bottom line: know the terrain. Have a great Winter Games!
