When you look at the mountains of Shenandoah National Park, what colors do you see?

Hikers may notice the grays, blacks, and tans of the park geology along with the green hues of the meadow and forests. However, from a distance this rolling land takes on a completely different palette.

So, what exactly makes the Blue Ridge blue?

It’s actually thanks to the trees!

When trees photosynthesize sunshine and carbon dioxide into nutrients and oxygen, they release a natural biproduct of hydrocarbons. As this (completely harmless) chemical mixture is released, it falls as a haze over the park. Not only does this give the mountains a “smoky” look, but the particles also scatter blue light, leading to the iconic color of our peaks!

Love puttering in the garden ... we are slowly making it beautiful. When we purchased the property 3 years ago there wasn’t a single flowering plant - only 6 evergreen shrubs. ❤️🌼🌸

Highly recommend time in the while visiting. Had it nearly to ourselves! Kayaked for about 3 1/2 with a little stop for lunch and another to see a mini water fall. We even went up a bit to We saw tons of turtles, dragonflies, birds, ducks and Canadian geese with babies! did a great job.

We were so tired from all the reno, we never shared pictures of the new kitchen! We love it and hope others do as well. Quartz countertops, Shaker style cabinets with brushed aluminum square handles, navy subway tile behind the stove and a natural slate backsplash.
