World Spa Awards has touched down at JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay in Vietnam, ahead of its 2017 Gala Ceremony.

An extensive weekend programme is in place which will see the elite of the spa industry invited to engage in an Aromotherapy Associates Sleep Workshop; a talk by one of the leading innovators in skincare, Dr Erich Schulte; and to enjoy a complimentary manicure and pedicure from therapists trained by Bastien Gonzalez – a French podiatrist and famed celebrity pedicurist.

Furthermore, delegates are invited to gather together on Saturday 9th December for an evening of unrivalled networking and drinks.

The highlight of the weekend, will of course, be the glittering World Spa Awards Gala Ceremony itself which will take place alongside the World Travel Awards Grand Final 2017 on the evening of Sunday 10th December at the luxury five-star beach resort – welcoming hundreds of spa, hospitality and tourism leaders from across the region and around the world.

World Spa Awards Managing Director, Rebecca Cohen, said: “We’re tremendously excited to be staging the World Spa Awards in Vietnam at the incredible JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay – and this year's event promises to be the biggest yet.

"It will be an absolute pleasure to welcome the leaders of the international spa and wellness industry, as we host the 3rd annual World Spa Awards Gala Ceremony where the highly anticipated winners will be announced."

Enviably situated on the pristine island of Phu Quoc – a lush, hidden paradise off the southern coast of Vietnam – JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay transports guests back to the bygone era of the early 20th century, with Bill Bensley's whimsical design of a mythical academy of Lamarck University offering a world of fantasies, and JW Marriott’s legendary services with exquisite detail evident throughout the property.

The Laguna Resort & Spa

Amid lush gardens and lagoon-style pools in the popular Nusa Dua area on Bali’s south-eastern coast, this self-proclaimed barefoot-luxury resort is famed for its evening fire dance performances, lavish Sunday beachfront brunches and evening cocktail hours featuring Balinese-made wine and cheese.

The Laguna sits in a row of other upmarket hotels lining the golden sands of Nusa Dua Beach, one of the island’s most luxurious addresses. While the area is known for tranquility, golf and high-end shopping, for a nightlife vibe you’ll want to grab a cab for the 45-minute drive to the lively beach bars in Kuta or Seminyak. The airport is a 30-minute drive away by toll road.

Lifehouse Spa & Hotel

This hypermodern Scandi-style spa hotel sits in expansive English Heritage gardens, just minutes from Frinton-on-Sea on the Essex coast. Come for the peace, the season-driven food and, above all, the outstanding spa, with its hydrotherapy pool and treatments for a total health and beauty overhaul.

The Lifehouse is just outside of the cute village of Thorpe-le-Soken, set in 130 acres of beautifully tended grounds and gardens that are a riot of colour in spring and autumn. All in all, it’s around an hour-and-a-half from London Liverpool Street by train (ask and they’ll pick you up at the station for a nominal fee). It’s a 10-minute (four-mile) drive to Frinton-on-Sea.
There’s none of the seaside kiss-me-quick tack you might expect here, just a fine stretch of beach and neat rows of beach huts. Or you could head on the A133 into Colchester, 14 miles away, Britain’s oldest recorded town complete with Roman wall remnants and a remarkably intact Norman castle.

This is why Thermae Bath Spa is closing in January

Thermae Bath Spa is shutting for 16 days in January 2018 for planned maintenance and refurbishment.
From Monday, January 8 to Tuesday, January 23, the popular spa will be closed so that a variety of works can be carried out, including the replacement of key plant, filters, doors and pipework.
Peter Rollins, Marketing and Communications Director for Thermae Bath Spa , said: “We will be also using this period to refurbish a number of important facilities. In order to cause the least disappointment to guests, we have deliberately scheduled this work for mid-January which is our quietest time of the year.

“Thermae has now been operating for over 11 years, during which time we have welcomed many thousands of visitors. Inevitably the buildings including the thermal baths have taken their fair share of wear and tear.

Facilities at Thermae Bath Spa include the open-air rooftop pool, Wellness Suite and 27 Treatment rooms.

Thalassa Spa at the Anassa, Cyprus

In a nutshell
The Anassa feels more like a rather beautiful village than a hotel. Perched on a Cyprus hilltop overlooking the sea, its rooms are scattered along winding stone paths leading down to the beach. The spa has been at the heart of the hotel since it opened and benefited from the hotel’s recent multimillion-pound makeover. It specialises in holistic therapies and wellbeing, and in exploring the healing properties of seawater for mind and body. Anassa, a four-hour flight from England and an hour from Paphos airport, is the perfect place to get a last hit of heat before winter sets in. It is still warm in October

Leafy Yorkshire spa town to pilot controversial 'self-help' Autumn scheme

A spa town in one of Yorkshire’s most affluent areas is to trial a new scheme in which residents will be asked to help clear their own roads and pavements of autumnal leaves. Bradford Council, which collects 400 tonnes of leaves each year from 1,100 miles of highway, says it must prioritise areas with the most trees and leaf-fall. In a leaflet setting out its hopes for residents to help manage clearance, the authority calls on communities to rake away leaves that may block roadside drains and add leaves from outside their homes to compost heaps or garden bins. In leafy Ilkley, residents are also being asked to take on some of the work themselves as part of the pilot scheme to help keep the roads and pavements clear. “The leaf-fall is extensive and we do live in a lovely, leafy area which brings its own autumn problems,” said Coun Mike Gibbons, who represents Ilkley on Bradford Council and is also on the Environment and Waste Management Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

“The council has lots of commitments that it should and does fulfil well, but with tight budgets there are always jobs that could be done better. “If people are happy and willing to help in the collection of leaves that will be appreciated. However, it won’t be possible for everybody so the council still has to fulfil its obligations. “An initiative like this is welcome and there will be many that wish to take it up.” The scheme is backed by Ilkley Parish Council and the authority has stressed it would be in addition to the normal work carried out by Bradford Council.

Fonteverde Hotel and Spa, San Casciano dei Bagni, Tuscany

In a nutshell
The natural beauty of the world heritage listed Val d’Orcia region provides the backdrop for this elegantly restored 17th-century Tuscan villa. A thermal spring bubbles to the surface in the manicured gardens and supplies a constant stream of mineral-rich water to the spa, the philosophy of which is based on the spring’s reported health benefits and regenerative effects, which can be traced back to the early Etruscans about 2,500 years ago. As the automatic gate opens to reveal the tree-lined drive, uninterrupted views of the Siena hills and portico-fronted villa beyond, there is little doubt that this is no ordinary spa hotel.

The Ocean Spa at Jamaica Inn Nominated for Jamaica's Best Hotel Spa 2017

It may be more than 4,600 miles away from London, but Luxury London decides that relocating to Jamaica – with every creature comfort and a new family to boot – might not be so bad
It’s not every day that your hotel room turns out to be a house. As I open the door to my two-floor villa at the Jamaica Inn, I can’t help giggling with childlike glee, sprinting barefoot upstairs to my four-poster bed, the white cotton canopy billowing in the sea breeze like sails, to perform a running jump onto the fluffy pillows.

I spend the next half an hour wandering around the rooms. Downstairs: an open kitchenette-sitting room, terrace with plunge pool, and private outdoor staircase to the ocean. Upstairs: a vast bedroom, balcony with outdoor shower, bathroom with indoor shower and bath, and a walk-in dressing room.

My villa sits serenely at one end of the Jamaica Inn grounds on the famous Caribbean isle, surrounded by a smattering of other cottages, each with panoramic views of the azure sea. The rest of the 52 suites are attached to the main building of the hotel and come with their own startling panorama of the ocean.

Interaction with the lush surrounds is actively encouraged here, as people enjoy breakfast on their balcony above the beach or fling the windows wide on their private terrace.
The legendary Jamaica Inn was once the go-to destination for the glitterati and literati. Marilyn Monroe and her husband Arthur Miller honeymooned here, while Noël Coward, T.S. Eliot, Errol Flynn and Sir Winston Churchill also soaked up the sun on private sojourns. The old-school glamour and colonial history of the island still hang in the air, even if the clientele has changed (Lily Allen and Sir Richard Branson are among recent visitors).

Adults can go wild!

An Adults-Only Resort with Personal Butlers and an Oceanfront Spa

Forewarning: if you plan to stay here, you must cope with having your very own in-room plunge pool, personal butler and custom-made mahogany four-poster bed.

We know. What a drag.

But assuming you’re still with us, the “here” we speak of is Serenity at Coconut Bay, an adults-only all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean that more than lives up to its name. It’s open now, and, please, allow these pictures wash over you like a gentle beach breeze.

In the interest of keeping it real, we’ll admit that this is very much a honeymooners type of place, given the privacy of the suites and the fact that it’d be silly not to have your butler draw you at least one candle-lit aromatherapy bath. However, we wouldn’t want you not being married (or just married) to keep you and someone special from enjoying...
