Tullochmacarrick in Glen Gairn. The local minister in the area lived here in the 1850s, looking after his congregation who lived down this stunning glen. One of our go-to walks!

A rather lovely rainbow highlighting the green fields of Auchtavan, once home to twelve families who lived off the land here. Auchtavan translates as "field of the two goats," the rent that often was paid by the tenants to their laird. Today, most buildings are in ruins at Auchtavan, although the late Queen Mother's picnic cottage is in good condition and is a favourite venue of ours for picnics and whisky tastings.

Blairglass, lying just off the B976 road to Gairnshiel from Crathie. Blairglass translates as grey field, but it was looking more green than grey today. One of my happy places, this house still has a cheese press and bike that needs a little tlc, propped up carefully against the wall.

Quite extraordinary really that I've restrained myself to one post about chanterelles this year. I've been enjoying them post-run on almost each breakfast!
I always head to birch forests to find chanterelles.
Birch is always a moving forest - their offspring can't grow directly underneath them, so move just a little forward for some more light. I love the thought that the mycelium of the chanterelles on the forest floor accompany them, supporting new generations of birch.

Our heather has been amazing this year, coming into bloom earlier than normal. This peacock butterfly was very obliging on a walk earlier this week, stopping to pose in the early morning sun.

Wee call out for Braemar Mountain Rescue Team earlier today. Fabulous flying skills (not Julian!)

Checking out a route for mountain rescue training later in the month. Worse things to do after a day at the PC.
