Not to give the place a bad name but Kasara Ghat is notorious for murders and robberies. Fittingly so, out of state truckers are reluctant to take on hitchhikers. One trucker whom we met was shot at, dishkiyaoon, moments ago with the bullet leaving a tiny dent in the side of his truck. Cheap desi pistols I guess.

George Mallory (1886-1924) was an English mountaineer and could possibly have been the first man to reach the summit of Mt Everest, almost 30 years before Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

We met Mr. Nanavre in Morachi Chincholi. He was busy working on his farm but happily took a break to chat with us. A motorcycle aficionado, he has four bikes all with same license number, which is graphically designed to spell out his surname - Nanavre. "All paid for," he says proudly.
