Related to the starfish, the brittle star has five thin arms emanating from a disc shaped body. For years, scientists were baffled as to how these animals detected light and shadows, as they were believed to have no eyes. This remained a mystery for years, until researchers found that the brittle stars could form crystalline lenses that covered their entire bodies. Each lens consists of a single c

alcite crystal, formed from proteins that the creature can produce. These crystal lenses then relay light directly to the brittle star’s nervous system, essentially making the creatures entire body, a single functioning eye. We are Alexa Ciarcia and Brian Laff. We work with all kinds of different media and found materials and curate items made by various artists from across the USA and around the World. The possibilities are limitless. We're always searching for new ideas and inspiration.
