The Red Pierrot (Talicada nyseus) may be small, but its striking black, white, and orange hues make it a true gem of the butterfly world. Found across the Indian subcontinent and South-East Asia, this delicate beauty is often seen fluttering around rocky terrain and gardens.

Feast your eyes on the stunning Short-lined Kite Swallowtail (Eurytides agesilaus) from our Honduras Butterfly Festival! 🇭🇳🌿

This elegant butterfly is a master of flight, with its long tails resembling a kite dancing in the wind. Here are some fascinating facts about this beauty:

🔹 Found across Central & South America, it thrives in tropical forests.
🔹 Its striking black-and-white patterns provide excellent camouflage among dappled sunlight.
🔹 Males are known to "puddle" on moist ground, absorbing minerals essential for reproduction.
🔹 It belongs to the Papilionidae family, which includes some of the world’s most spectacular butterflies!

🌟 Meet the Turquoise Emperor Butterfly! 🦋

With its shimmering turquoise-blue wings, the Turquoise Emperor (Doxocopa laurentia) is a true gem of the butterfly world. Found in tropical forests across Central and South America, this species is as fascinating as it is beautiful!

✨ Fun Facts:

*Males boast stunning turquoise wings, while females display softer brown and orange tones.
*They have a green proboscis, a unique feature that adds to their charm.
*These butterflies love overripe fruit, tree sap, and puddling for minerals.
*Males are fiercely territorial, patrolling their domains with swift and daring flights.

🌟 Yesterday marked the first day of our 2025 Honduras Butterfly Festival extension, and it was absolutely spectacular! 🦋✨

Our final day at BioParque Paradise was a butterfly lover’s dream! 🩸 The sunlit forest was alive with fluttering wings, and the discoveries were nothing short of extraordinary. Highlights included spotting a Peter’s Scarlet-eye (only the 3rd ever seen in Honduras!), the newly described Telemiades austini, and capturing the first live photos of the elusive Scallop-patched Theope. Across the river, we found a dazzling White-rayed Metalmark and, just before lunch, a cooperative Zebra-tipped Metalmark stole the show. Later, the Tiger White finally made its appearance, and dinner brought a surprise visit from a Two-spotted Scarlet-eye. An unforgettable end to a magical tour! ✨

🌴✨ We made it to Honduras! Today marks the first day of our pre-tour visit to Pico Bonito. Although it rained most of the day, we still managed to compile a pretty impressive bird list 🐦🌧️—but only spotted a few butterflies. Here's to more winged wonders tomorrow! 🦋

At Fauna Ventures, conservation is at the core of all we do, and working to help preserve the biologically diverse habitats that we visit is our top priority. We partner with local agencies to contribute a minimum of 10% of proceeds from each trip to help protect the precious places we visit and the amazing creatures we encounter.
