🌿🦋 We’re still busy processing photos from our incredible butterfly tour in Colombia, but I had to pause and share a couple of shots of one of my favorite moths from the trip: the stunning Adelowalkeria eugenicolombiana! This beautiful moth is endemic to Colombia, and I was absolutely captivated by it.

Our lodge in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta was the perfect backdrop for capturing these amazing creatures. 📸✨

Happy !

I’ve been waiting to find this beauty in the Sierra Nevada desert of Santa Marta — the endemic Lymanopoda caeruleata butterfly. On our last day there, one of the group wandered a bit further down the road and came back with photos of the species. We quickly headed out, and luckily, they were still around! The whole group got to photograph this stunning butterfly.

🦋 During our amazing butterfly adventure in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, we settled down for a late lunch one afternoon. Just as we were enjoying our meal, spotted a small red butterfly! Excitedly, we grabbed our camera gear and rushed outside. We were treated to fantastic views of a Callicore texa aretas! What a perfect way to cap off the day! 📸🌺

Yesterday was an incredible final day in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta! We were blessed with perfect sunshine and an abundance of butterflies. A special highlight was Jim Snyder’s encounter with the endemic Morpho rhodopteron. What a memorable experience! 🌞🦋

🌤️ This morning, we seized the beautiful blue skies to search for butterflies! We were lucky enough to spot several Morpho rhodopteran, but they were camera shy. While by a stunning waterfall, one flew low into the forest and landed in the shadows. We got the group a few distant shots—definitely a magical experience! 🦋✨

Today was our first full day in the magical Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and it was a wash out. We did manage a break in the rain around 3:00 pm so we decided to venture out of the lodge to see what we could turn up.

While looking under leaves for roosting butterflies Susan Blayney found a Malachite (Siproeta stelenes) under the very first leaf she investigated. What a find!

Yesterday, while walking along the Mocoa River, our group was treated to a breathtaking sight! A magnificent Swallowtail, Pterourus bachus chrysomelus, graced us with its presence as it soared over the water. We followed its flight and were rewarded with incredible views of this stunning butterfly. 🌿🦋

Their vibrant colors and unique patterns were absolutely mesmerizing! Nature never ceases to amaze us.

🌅 We were out bright and early last weekend conducting a couple of bird surveys and stumbled upon this dew-covered Variegated Fritillary! 🦋🌿 Nature’s little surprises always make early mornings worth it.

At Fauna Ventures, conservation is at the core of all we do, and working to help preserve the biologically diverse habitats that we visit is our top priority. We partner with local agencies to contribute a minimum of 10% of proceeds from each trip to help protect the precious places we visit and the amazing creatures we encounter.
