If you have missed the chance to donate, don’t worry! You are still on time!
Last week we had a fundraising challenge. The goal was to collect funds in order to be able to pay for a GVI National Scholar for the summer period.
To know more about this program you can listen to the testimonial of one of the students who collaborated with GVI in summer 2017 thanks to this National Scholar Program.

Learning and having fun
Learning and having fun.
Our WEP B class learned a song to study daily routine. Here there is the video of the fabulous result.
Alternative ways of learning English are always highly appreciated by the students. The lesson becomes more enjoyable when teachers and students have fun together.

We've had some requests for footage of yesterdays MH workshops. So, over the coming days we will share some with you!
Last night Tarn delivered two MH workshops, one to a group of females and one to a group of males. She delivered both of these in Khmu language; the students' native language!

WPO C
Today, we took advantage of the smaller class size at Wat Pha O to allow the Novice and Monk students in our Elementary class to practice their speaking in a "speed chatting" set up. Two rows of students (and two teachers) sat across from each other and had 3 minutes to chat with their partner before changing to the next partner. There were only three rules:
1. No Lao (or Hmong or Khmu)
2. English Only
3. After 3 minutes students had to change partners.
This gave the students a chance to practice their speaking and build their confidence in English.

Today's classroom at a seasonably wet farm this morning
GVI Laos' kids class
Here at GVI Laos, we use the Jolly Phonics system to develop specialized curricula to help the Lao students learn the English alphabet and phonetics. In Lao the alphabet looks and sounds very different, so it takes some time for students to learn before they're ready to start studying words and grammar. You can see some of our volunteers using gestures to help the students remember the sounds that they've learned.
Today we celebrate all the strong, powerful, intelligent women and girls in our Women's Empowerment Program, and around the world! Happy @International Women's Day!!
Today was the last day of classes for some of the students in our summer programs. So we set up an obstacle course to have a bit of fun, while also practicing the directions they'd been studying all week, before saying goodbye!
Our partners at the Luang Prabang Children's Library have paired up with a school in Nambak district to bring some rural students into the city for a two-month summer education program. GVI was invited to join this partnership to provide the English portion of the program! This summer, we've been working with them to practice English in fun and exciting ways. The students have 3 hours of study with GVI per day, doing conversational English, literacy through reading stories, arts and crafts, and song and dance to help learn new vocabulary and grammar! This is their performance of "Roar" by Katy Perry.
Things can get a bit crazy with our kids program at the library!
