Welcome to Posada Ruiz Wahyuni (PRW), a magical place that offers unique surf spots and the opportunity to lay back, relax and contemplate thinking about thinking whilst the sun sets over the Indian Ocean. You may have already heard about us or you may not but at PRW we try and do things just a little different than what you might expect so here’s our story…
PRW was founded by Jeroen Ruijs and Na
nik Wahyuni. Jeroen was a pilot for Susi Air and flew surfers from all over the world to Simeuleu, a little island of the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. A surfer himself he tried out many surf spots in Sumatra including Dylans at Simeuleu, a perfect clean right hander giving you the perfect barrel. After his first ride he was hooked and decided he wanted to create a place that would allow him to relax and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of life at Simeuleu with that perfect wave in his backyard. During one of his visits he met Nanik, a local who grew up on Simeuleu and knows the island inside out. Nanik, having worked for various local not-for-profit organisations was and is very involved with the wellbeing of those people on the island that are less fortunate. Her vision was to create a place that, apart from providing a unique surf and island experience, would also make a real difference to the wellbeing of the people of Simeuleu. Together Jeroen and Nanik decided to create PRW to combine the best of both worlds. In a short period of time PRW has grown into a place where surfers from all over the world come to ride that perfect wave and embrace the positive chilled out island vibe and where local children come to enjoy a movie and can participate in basic English classes for free. So, if you do decide to stay at PRW be prepared for the place to be invaded for a few hours once a fortnight by a bunch of enthusiastic local kids that are keen to meet you and improve their English! At PRW we offer the islands best wave at your front door, literally all you have to do is grab your board, jump of our veranda and paddle out. But there’s more to do than surfing perfect waves and relaxing afterwards with a drink in one of our hammocks on the large veranda overlooking the Indian Ocean and its picture perfect sunsets. The reef right out front of the house is perfect for a snorkelling session, spear fishing or hunting for fresh Lobster and Crab at night. We also provide motorbikes to cruise around the island and discover the many tropical beaches that can be found by taking the roads less travelled. If you’re keen to explore the surrounding islands we can organise boat trips with the local fishermen who know the best spots and will make sure you’ll have an authentic island hopping adventure Sumatra style. Of course we can also organise surf cruises to some of the best (and narly) surf spots around the island.
