If you’re craving a cupcake or 4, this is your spot! ‘83 Sweets is a cute little bakery on Sixth St, that is known for their cupcakes! The art on the building is stunning. More buildings should take note! How pretty would our town be with this art everywhere?!

Trying to dig up history on this building, I’m seeing The Ardzli Tea Room come up. It says its location was 732 Sixth Street, but is that what this building was? It does look similar. If so, how appropriate for a bakery to now be here! The tea room was used for meetings by mostly women. I just picture women in nice clothing sitting around sipping tea, gossiping. Sounds like a precious site! ☕️🧁🩷

We have an incredible library here in Portsmouth. Located right across the street from Portsmouth schools, this beautiful building is open to the public! Don’t forget to go in the basement if you have kiddos, or if you want to checkout the local history room! There are a ton of books on this area, and surrounding. The staff are very welcoming. Go check it out!

Formerly the Kathy Sue’s Bakery, The Taylored Cookie & Bakery is a sweet treat! Located right in a prime spot on Market St, this little gem of a bakery has the BEST sticky buns! We snagged some pecan topped ones, and boyyyyy are they yummy!

This massive building is absolutely stunning. Could you imagine if it were still a hotel?! It would be INCREDIBLE.

The Washington Hotel, now known as The Washington House which is apart of Riverview Retirement Center, was built in 1901. The Washington charged $3.00 per day to rent a room, that seems like a lot back in that time.

Does anyone know? Does anybody have any photos of them staying here? I’m curious to know how busy this place stayed.
There are 68 units and it’s 5 stories, so I’m wondering if there used to be 68 hotel rooms? This would be the coolest hotel. Maybe one day it can be that again!

Can you believe that this beautiful building used to be the largest bank in the area? Admission is always free here at the museum. The vault can be seen through a glass door on the second floor, how cool!

Alrighty let’s get into it!
I spent about an hour at the library trying to dig up some photos of this place.
Built in 1843, "The Portsmouth Brewery” is THE oldest brewery in the state! It has been through a few names that I’ve seen: The Portsmouth Brewery, Portsmouth Brewing & Ice Co., The Brewery Arcade, & now the Portsmouth Brewing Company. I would have loved to have seen this place throughout the years. I remember walking in and the bar being to the right. Since redoing it, they have added a large bar towards the back when you walk in, a Beer Garden, more seating, but still great beer. What used to be a barbershop in the back, they have turned it into something fun! Seems they are dabbing a little into distilling… so let’s stay tuned for that! 😃

The crew that works here is so nice. They are passionate about the history their building offers, and if you’re nice to them ask if you can wander downstairs- you won’t regret it!

We snagged a pizza & some chicken tenders. They have the BEST chicken tenders that I’ve ever had! I would love to do stories on what each building is, what it used to be, what the property has been through with everything from the flood to the economy, and what the future plans are for the area. The cutest dairy bar in Portsmouth. You’ll find some of the same ladies working there that have been there for years. I believe it’s been there since the early 50’s. This is what small town America is all about. Go down and grab you a footer! 🌭

My name is Kendra, and I love all things Portsmouth. We live in the coolest little town: from its history, food, to living in a small town along the Ohio River, I am proud to call this place my hometown. I’m happy to be back!

I wanted to create a page, kind of like a "Portsmouth Travel Page,” that has everything from where to eat here, things to do, the history of the area and the cool buildings, events, etc.

I have a lot of digging to do, so if you have any photos of places here, know anybody that owns any of the old structures here, etc please send them my way! I want to dive into what this area used to be, along with the present and the future. I’m dedicated to making it a better place.
