Walk of the Week: Beatles Greatest Hits Vol.I - 1961-65 Saturday 29th June 10am
We start with an inch of snow on Trafalgar Square and The Beatles on the brink of stardom. We end on the cusp of psychedelia.
It's the walking tour equivalent of The Red Album. From Love Me Do to Rubber Soul.

Sunshine all day, a great welcome at Eel Pie Island Museum from Lin & Jane, a fantastic lunch from John & his crew at The Eel Pie, Twickenham (plus a sneaky trip to Eel Pie Records where I bought Bernard Butler’s Good Grief 😉) and a bunch of sunny 😎 music fans from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇪🇺🇸 & 🇨🇦 on another sold-out Rock’n’Roll Explorer Day to Barnes, Twickenham & Richmond. Four years on from playing with Little Richard’s band in Hamburg (and other places), and three years from Let It Be (Get Back), this 1966 LP finds Billy Preston in fine form. Gotta love the title, too (!). His amazing talent and irrepressible personality makes this a great Friday evening record. Sly Stone is credited as arranger and Steve Douglas as producer (also one of the legendary side men of the Wrecking Crew).
I’ll talk about Billy on a couple of tours this weekend - I’ve got a full dance card and I’m looking forward to Fathers’ Day parties, students from Tennessee, two public tours and a Routemaster bus. Give me a wave if you see me 👋 Have a great weekend, whatever you get up to. If, like me, you’ll be missing your Dad this weekend, then play his favourite records and he’ll never be far away ❤️

Looking forward to getting out-and-about in search of The Rolling Stones in 60s Soho tomorrow (still a few tickets left, book here: https://londonmusictours.org/rollingstones60/). I love to recommend this book, one of the best thrillers I’ve read in recent years, to Stones fans on London Music Tours. Sympathy For The Devil by William Shaw is set against the backdrop of the Stones’ free show in Hyde Park. (Thanks Sean Hannam for the recommendation)
