Paragliding interested me for a long time already, this summer I had the possibility to give it finally a go! :)
From the north of Scandinavia I traveled down to the south, to attend the European Hitchgathering in Denmark. A friend of mine wanted to teach me for a while already, but it never worked out. Now it finally did for a short amount of time! :)
As soon as I arrived back up in Utsjoki with my spare parts to fix the bike I couldn't believe it. It also looked already like spring here and that was the turning point.
I finally let go of chasing the cold and accepted the warmth of the sun. The same day something magic happened. I always thought the ice of the river is just slowly but surely getting thinner and finally dissolving, but I was wrong and got a witness of an rare #natural #spectacle
Somewhere the #ice of the #tana #river started to break free and #crashing into the still closed river and started a chain reaction. It looks #unbelievable #crazy #beautiful and #terrifying in one.
What a lucky grab so cycle at the #perfectmoment along the river!

I really had a blast in that National Park!
After my #bikepacking trip all the way up the frozen river I also wanted to the test the setup with the trailer in the snow. The ski under the trailer did a great job, it was nice to ride and you couldn't feel the weight that much. Some wax under the ski and it will slide by itself! A shame I wasn't already here a month before in the real cold, you could have gone everywhere!
Cheers to the reindeers staring in the background! :)

Should I stay or should I go now?!
Yesterday was already a bit ugly as lots of the riding was in slushy snow and took me therefore quite a while.
This morning I woke up and the wind was already blowing as hell. Luckily I found a nice wooden Lavvu (shelter) which is half closed!
And now back to the main question! :D
20km/h of wind served with gusts up to 70km/h - sounds like fun!
It's at least not straight headwind, rather hitting a bit sideways, will see if it blows me off the road 😂

As I was writing a couple of days ago; I endet up cycling through the same area where the Northern Wind militaryexercise took part. The army probably also thought the area here is nice, quite and remote as I did and we ended up here by accident at the same time. It's obviously not only good for cycling, but also to play war...
One of the military guys who had a bit more to say and I met told me it's the best I'll make it out of the area at night time before the exercise starts the next morning. It was a bit far and I was already in the middle of it, so I decided to bivouac somewhere and continue the next day. I wouldn't have been surprised to get woken up by the military, but it was pretty quite. As I continued cycling I saw a lot of military vehicles, including tanks hiding at the edge of the forest. From the most of the soldiers I got thumbs-up, but it was still a weird feeling cycling by an intersection and there's a tank standing there facing it's cannon straight into your face.
Don't forget to turn on the sound, I'm already addicted to it!
This was a great feeling and moment; Be back on the bike after a longer break! Yes, I like to play! Sorry mum for killing the stone steps with my spikes 😅😇

It's quite a while ago as I was posting something. The last couple of weeks it was basically the same most of the time.
I was helping out on a sleddog kennel; That means getting up, feeding the dogs in the morning and evening and also clean the kennel after feeding them. Also some additional maintenance like fixing things and of course training the dogs.
As I arrived in Karasjok I had still no idea that I caught a bladder infection from my first mountaineering days a week or two earlier in Lakselv (https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1083576945117870&id=323359407806298). It seems that half a litre of tea was even for me too less to keep my body running 8h in the cold with plenty of wind without any consequences.
Therefore I was mainly sleeping, resting or feeling tired if I wasn't doing dog stuff or eating or drinking tea.
So now I would like to share some footage from the more exciting part of the work; Training the dogs. It's pretty straight forward as soon as you reach the Karasjok river after a couple of exciting hundred metres from the kennel, which I would like to show you. From there you continue the warm up for another 2km and then open the brake and let the dogs go on there own speed.

I guess a lot of people have seen videos where people threw hot water in the air by negative 40°C and it vaporises.
I just wanted to let you know it works already in -31°C! :D
So f**king cool!

This is my favourite petrol station in Vienna on the edge of the City on the B1. It's already the third time I hitchhiked out of Vienna from here and all the time I got a ride all the way west into Germany!
Bonus from today, or rather the 'positive' side effect of fuel on the wet surface; You can slide as hell! I was unfortunately the only one there excited about it and having fun. You know; Don't grow up, it's a trap! :D

Let's conquer a castle!
I thought already at nighttime if it's not possible to club up a castle wall, in the morning I saw a reasonable line which could work and gave it a go. I guess I don't have to mention I had to triple check every single stone and get rid of some dirt, dust and green stuff ;)

Retrospect from the last few weeks
As soon as I was able to walk and cycle I did so and it worked quite well. I also discovered a slack line back home which never got my attention before, I did not even know it existed. It's obviously not the smartest idea to jump on a slack only 3-4 weeks after you twisted your knee, but I was never wellknown for only doing 'smart' or well-thought things and it was a welcoming change :D
At the beginning it took a lot of patients, but after 20min I managed to walk across the full length the very first time. I got more and more confident and also started to jump on the slack line to start off. After a short time I felt already brave enough to take my cam with me and this are the first few seconds of my fourth session. It still needs a lot of time and I will definitely try to practice if I've the possibility and if I'm out of the alps towards the warm south.
That was a great deal yesterday! I gave them a interview a couple of minutes before the start of the race and got a place in the first row as exchange :)
You can see I'm getting closer to home! My host yesterday had already a cockoo clock at home :)
But I won't go home, I just touched the northern end of the black forest and will continue eastish into Palatinate of Germany for the weekend. There will be my next challenge followed from one more in Steinbach during the whole week :)
I did not meantion it at all and now it's already over 7 weeks ago. It was just early to post something like that.
It was my fourth day and I haven't been over one km away from where I started. It was the first intersection where I wanted to turn left and it was downhill, so you can imagine I wasn't slow. I looked over and didn't see any traffic coming and slightly cut the bend and a car appeared straight in front of me. It was a reaction of miliseconds - I pulled the break, tried to get around the car somehow. The rearwheel lost ground contact, even with the trailer attached and I fell. My heart was pumping, adrenaline rushing through my veines, somehow I managed to not hit the ground, the couple in the car was shocked as well. After getting down I pulled the bike and trailer from the road and we checked the car, luckily only a few cratches in the plastic at the front, the driver didn't take about it and they continued. I spotted a bench not even 30m away, dragged everything there and did nothing. Just sitting and trying to get back down, after I cleared my mind I checked the whole bike, everything seemed alright, I was especially worried about the front wheel and the seatpost, but everything was in a perfect condition. Then I checked the rear wheel and have seen what you're just saw, a huge 'eight'. Luckily it didn't touch the frame so I just continued, for me it looked to bad that I didn't even tried to true the wheel, you can only try to bend the rim a little bit was my opinion. On my way I showed it to many mechanics in hope to find somebody who is going to give it a try, everybody without an exception said it's f**ked.
As I sent tune some pictures they told me I should contact the Austrian distributor Bike & Sports Handels GmbH in Bad Goisern, I was in the area anyway and rung them up. They seemed pretty flexible because I said I will drop in the next couple of days, unfortunately I made it only 5 min before they were going to knock off, but one of the guyes
Start uphill
After seven weeks I've got the first time access to a computer and would like to share the video as I started back home. I thought if I'm able to climb our very own hill, I'm able to climb everything sealed I will find on my way! As I started I had 18kg for the bike plus front rack and bag. Around 30kg in the trailer and 7kg in the backpack.
Are you wondering why I'm so slow especially at the beginning, I'm riding my lowest special mountain gear 20t-36t by 27% steepness! This gear is worth a million if you have to pull that much stuff!
It's time so look slowly but surely into the videos of the trip!
I will start today with video how to make 'Iranian fastfood'
That was actually my dinner today as well :)
Potato and egg roll rocks!
