Unexpected visit to Villányi Vörösbor Fesztivál / Villány red wine festival in Hungary. The festival was held on Friday-Saturday-Sunday of the first week of October in one of the most well-known wine regions of Hungary called Villány. The red wine festival was full of activities, programs, food, wine and people. As we decided to visit Villány on Thursday we could not manage to register for the programs that otherwise would have been super fun😣 the festival organized vineyard tours, wine tastings and even masterclasses for everybody who registered on time. However we still enjoyed the day with plenty of wines, street food, local products, demonstration of old cars and locals who played musical instruments and sang wearing national costumes. BTW I have already made a reminder in my calendar for the next year's festival to register and be able to participate in the rest of the programs 😂
What about wines?🍷we could find some of the largest wineries offering the tastings in the streets of Villány and few smaller wineries as well!
We tasted quite a lot of Villány Franc, which actualy is Cabernet Franc, from 4 wineries:
✅Gere Tamas es Zsolt
✅Lelovits
✅Jekl
✅Vylyan
All of them were quite interesting and Jekl Villányi Franc 2013 was so pleasant to drink, very well balanced.

წითელი ღვინის ფესტივალი გრძელდება სამი დღე და თუ წინასწარ დარეგისტრირდებით, შეძლებთ ისეთ პროგრამებში მიიღოთ მონაწილეობა, როგორებიცაა ვენახში გასეირნება, ღვინის დეგუსტაცია და მასტერკლასები. უნგრელი მეგობრის წაყვანა არ დაგავიწყდეთ, რადგან ეს ყველაფერი უნგრულადაა 😂🍷

Many hours of planning and hard work resulted in this beautiful event with some of the top Georgian wines and snacks from our country. Churchkhela, Chiri, Tklapi, Nuts, Sulguni cheese, Kakhetian oil, Mchadi and Tone bread were not missing either! If you have ever been to Georgia you would know how tasty these snacks are ❤

The wines were and the day was so special because of our guests who knew so much about Georgian wines and were so interested in the topics we discussed.

Have you ever had a medieval dinner where it is a must to eat without cutlery? 😲
Hundreds of people have a feast together and you are served by people in medieval costumes! 👸👚
The dishes that we dealed with (🙊) were: meat soup as a first course and a duck, boiled potato, corn bread and pickles as a second course. Lovely cake with cherries was a nice dessert to finish with. The meal was accompanied by the wine which was very similar to the one they drank in medieval times 🤣 I could not decide if it was on purpose or not!
Right before the feast the experience started with a horse show including horse games and competitions between Hungarian and Mongol teams 💪🐎
All this is organized in Sümeg, very close to the Sümeg castle👍

Traditionally Georgian wines are made in Qvevri which is a clay vessel buried into the ground. Can you imagine how difficult it is to clean Qvevri before the use? In the video you can see how Georgian wineries prepare for the harvest 💪🍇

Amphoras have been used to ferment and age wine for thousands of years. And for thousands of years they served the wine community well. But as winemaking techniques and wine quality have evolved since, say, 6000 BC or so, the technology that goes into making amphoras has failed to keep up.

Not all the wines manage to stay deep in your memory. And the ones who manage are impossible to forget and we tend to always be loyal to them ❤

Which are your favorite wines?
By the way, in this picture I am in a cellar of one of the newest Georgian wineries. It is called and it is located in Kartli wine region of Georgia. They have 4 hectares of organic vineyards with indigenous Georgian varieties such as Chinuri, Khikhvi, Goruli Mtsvane, Tavkveri, Danakharuli, Shavkapito and some more 🍇
The wines are rich and show strength from Qvevri winemaking technology but at the same time they are balanced and pleasant to pair with either Georgian cuisine or some other richly flavoured . Note: easy to fall in love 😄
The winery is very close to Tbilisi and is easy to reach. It consists of a museum, wine cellar, winery where only Qvevri wines are produced and some other venues to be constructed soon 😍
Great news is that they already get visits 👌

🤓If you are in Budapest and you want to avoid tourist crowds, traffic jams, city noise, museum visits and group tours - why don't you take a bus to Etyek and explore this lovely wine region?
🍇Etyek is a wine producing region mainly focusing on sparkling wines, light white wines but producing rosé and reds as well.
🚌The way to Etyek takes approximately 45 minutes from Kelenföld station and costs around 500 HUF.
🍗 or in English - ham master - produces different types of hams and serves some tapas and local dishes at their terrace next to the vineyards. Their homemade dishes are delicious and the lunch is accompanied by live music 🍽
🥂You should not miss visiting at least one of the wineries of Etyek wine region! Check these ones: or
I have tasted the wines but planning to visit them for my next trip! You should definitely make an advance reservation for your wine tour in these wineries.

September 21 and 28 - very likely two most important dates of my life.
Two days when I will have a possibility to introduce the wines from my one homeland to another - Hungary.
The masterclass will be held in Budapest at natural wine bar "Vinopiano". Guests will be able to taste Georgian wines, Georgian snacks, learn about Georgian wine culture, history, present and listen to Georgian music.
