"My wife and I have just returned from a weekend at HPB Sibton Park. I took both of these photos on Sat 24th February on the White Cliff walk to the east of Dover and at St Margaret at Cliffe. The day started out brightly, but as you can see the sky darkened and a few hours later was raining heavily. A lovely walk though." 🌊

“Autumn and winter at HPB Sibton Park changes due to the varieties of the weather,” says Doug Wood, long-time head gardener at our Kentish home. “Because of a hot Indian summer last year we were still regularly cutting the grass until much later in the year than usual; but that has now stopped, so we can turn our attention to other matters. 🌿

“At this time my assistant Sara and I spend a lot of time hedge cutting. Before Christmas, the hedges were becoming dormant and ready for a cut. This helps with any snow we may get (yes we do get snow in !) and prepares the hedge for new growth throughout the spring. 🌱

“At Sibton we have a lot of yew and box hedges, many of which are shaped; and we are trying to restore the shapes of the old topiary hedging. “We lift our dahlias for the winter and store them in the greenhouse where they will be safe from the frost. We also lift our geraniums and they too go into the greenhouse. ❄️

"We have a very old ‘apple tree walk’, which even predates the school that was here before HPB Sibton Park came along. Nobody knows what variety they are – not even me! 🍏

“We suffer similar problems with pests that most gardens do. However, rabbits are my biggest problem, especially with new growth or planting out young plants. They do like young shoots! I try and protect new plants by creating chicken wire guards around the new plants. Once established the rabbits aren’t so keen on them! I am also experimenting with different plants to see what they don’t like.” 🐇

Holidays across the generations ☀️

"My sister and I started our annual “family holiday” with Holiday Property Bond in 2000. Initially, we took our widowed mother, her sister, her brother and his wife. Over the years, sons, daughters, nephews, nieces, cousins, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren have joined us. We have mostly holidayed in the UK, favouring HPB Sibton Park, HPB Henllys and HPB St Brides Castle.

This year, we went to HPB Biniorella as a party of 19, ranging from 83 years to three months. Our experience has shown that the joy of holidaying with Holiday Property Bond is that it offers a holiday for all ages."

"Greetings to the many lovely guests who visited HPB Sibton Park when I was site manager. I am very grateful to all those who sent very kind messages to me when I was ill, they were very uplifting.

Unfortunately, I have been re-diagnosed with the same rare cancer but thankfully I am being treated again by the wonderful staff at the Royal Marsden Hospital. I came across a charity called https://okt.to/EnFRsA where patients with cancer can apply to the charity for a treat: to look forward to a trip, meal or experience.

It is a wonderful idea and I have been lucky enough to be awarded an experience from the charity. None of us know what is round the corner in our lives!

When I was working for Holiday Property Bond those who met me at HPB Sibton Park will know I did my utmost for guests to have the best holiday with us and enjoy the Garden of England.
