Celebrate the Season Nature’s Way – Experience Magical Mangroves
During this holiday season, take some time to appreciate the many gifts of nature found in Palm Beach County. Mangroves (red, white, and black) are found throughout Lake Worth Lagoon and the Intracoastal Waterway. These trees do just fine in brackish water (part salt and part fresh). They deal with the salt by pushing it out through the leaves or filtering it out through the roots. Mangroves provide important habitat for crustaceans, fish, and birds. The red mangrove prop roots protect vulnerable shorelines from destructive waves. If you are looking to reel in a snook, head over to the nearest mangrove forest and drop your fishing line in the water. You can find mangroves at Delaware Scrub, Limestone Creek, Frenchman’s Forest, Jupiter Ridge, Juno Dunes and Snook Islands natural areas.
