Just inland from the South Atlantic Ocean lies Trelew and Gaiman at the eastern terminus of the Chubut River. This new up and coming wine region is unique in its proximity to the ocean that causes high levels of salinity in the ground water in this low lying valley. That paired with the fossilized seabed found throughout the area, provides a fascinating study on soil, especially for the production of wine. While the area is somewhat newer to viticulture compared to other parts of Argentina, winemakers are already being recognized for their award winning wine. It’s certainly a region to keep your eyes on as they develop!

Glaciar Torrecillas is a special destination in the Los Alerces National Park. A hike within a hike, we start walking from Lago Verde through thick forest and beautiful glimpses of lake and mountains to Lago Menendez. We then catch a 45 minute boat ride to a mostly untouched shoreline to take a 1.5 hour interpretive hike up to Laguna Torrecillas. This area is unique in that it is a UNESCO world heritage protected area and portions of the park are completely untouched by any human, with exception of park rangers and scientific researchers. The pristine tranquility is bolstered by the national parks that neighbour Los Alerces over the Chilean border.

Our Patagonia wine and adventure tour takes you from the coast to the mountains. Along the way we stop in Puerto Piramides which is a small town in a UNESCO protected area.
After the first few days of the itinerary filled with wine tasting and travel, a day out mountain biking is just what we need to stretch our legs and breathe in the fresh ocean air! This ride starts in Puerto Piramides where we ride cross country through sand dunes down to Punta Pardelas, a secluded cove. There we take a break for a picnic lunch of homemade empanadas on the beach and your choice to cool down in the ocean and snorkel! We then hike to a viewpoint where you also have the choice of a rejuvenating yoga session before riding back back to town.
In each tour, we adjust the difficulty levels of our activities to suit the skill level of each client so everyone can benefit from our adventures!

Far off the beaten path is a small vineyard located near Bahia Nuestra on the Atlantic coast. While staying in Viedma, we were told this place and couldn’t help but take a detour to see for ourselves. Our route took us down 70 kilometers of gravel roads through wide open terrain and finally down to the coastline.
Upon arrival, the vineyard owner came out to greet us and toured us through his 3 year old vineyard. He’s planting varietals like Grüner Veltliner and Pinot Noir, and hopefully in a few years, we’ll be able to try his first vintage! With tenacity, he has started to build his land up with beautiful buildings and rows of carefully planted vines. He had to lay 12.5 kilometers of water line to tap into the nearest aqueduct which is piped from roughly 150+ kilometers away.
Grit, determination, and the belief that beautiful wine will be produced in this environment is what drives him and we can’t wait to see his operations grow and produce!

Viedma/Carmen de Patagones is the first stop on our Patagonia tour. Perched on either side of the Rio Negro, the city offers a fantastic introduction to northern Patagonia filled with rich history, stunning architecture, and endless exploration.
Upon arrival, we’ll drop our luggage off at our boutique hotel, Casa Crespo (@casacrespo_hotelboutique), before driving over to El Condor on the coast to stroll along beautiful sandy beaches and watch the local wildlife including burrowing parrots in the cliff band lining the shores and sea lions sunning on the coastline. To end the day, we’ll find ourselves back in Carmen de Patagones to enjoy some amazing Neapolitan style pizza at San Marzano (@patagonessanmarzano) before returning to Casa Crespo for a great night’s sleep!
