Japan - Land of the Rising Sun

On 31st December I have some very excited clients heading off on their honeymoon to Japan. I absolutely loved my own trip to this incredible country and really enjoy tailor-making holidays there for my clients.

The most popular type of trip I book is a tailor-made self guided holiday, but I can also offer cruises and group tours as well. A self guided adventure is perfect if you like to explore new places at your own pace and make your own discoveries, but you also want to know that you'll be staying in good accommodation in great locations, and that you won't be stressed about which train to take, or the best way to get from the airport to your hotel. You’ll also have the support of my partners on the ground in Japan should you need any assistance.

For first time visitors to Japan I usually start with the Golden Route and then adapt and expand this itinerary to suit each clients interests.

The Golden Route traces the path of the ancient Tokaido Highway, starting with the skyscrapers of ultra-modern Tokyo, stopping at the hot spring town of Hakone and traversing the country to Japan's cultural heart at Kyoto. For this honeymoon I've added in Hiroshima and Osaka.

From Geisha to Sumo and everything in between, there’s no end to the Japanese Cultural experiences I can arrange for you.

My honeymoon couple love food, museums and wrestling, so I have all of that included and more. They are also very tall so I needed to make sure all their accomodation had King size beds!

During their 4 nights in Tokyo they will visit:

teamLab Planets Tokyo (A massive collection of 9 immersive art installations)
Tokyo Skytree (The 634m high tower is the hottest destination in town)
Tokyo National Museum (the largest art museum in Japan)
And I also managed to secure them excellent tickets for the annual Wrestle Kingdon event!

They then head by train to Hakone where they will use their included Hakone Freepass to explore this wonderful area by 6 different forms of transport. These include the mountain buses and railway, one of the longest cable cars in Japan and a funicular railway as well as a pirate ship which cruises across Lake Ashi! (The pirate ship on the lake was my favourite!).

Their accomodation here is a Ryokan (traditional Japanese Inn) and their room has a private onsen (natural hot spring bath).

From Hakone they will travel to Kyoto where they will have an incredible experience - Tea Ceremony and Kimono Wearing.

Could there be anything more Japanese than peeling back a sliding screen door, kneeling on a tatami mat floor and slowly learning the revered art of the tea ceremony?

After plenty of free time in Kyoto to explore, they will head on to Hiroshima on the Shinkansen bullet train. During this 400km journey the train passes through several major cities along the coast, including Kobe, famous for its top-grade beef.

Hiroshima is a city that needs little introduction. It is of course infamous for being the site of one of two atomic bombs dropped on Japan at the end of the Second World War. Despite it's tragic past, Hiroshima is now a bustling and vibrant city which has risen phoenix-like from the ashes. The local food is okonomiyaki. Literally meaning ‘what you like’, you choose the ingredients and cook the cabbage-based pancake-style dish yourself over a hot plate at your table. This was my favourite food in Japan!

I would also highly recommend a visit to Miyajima, is a small island in Hiroshima Bay. It is known for its forests and ancient temples and as you sail over from Hiroshima you will pass the Great Torii Gate which is partially submerged at high tide.

Finally they will head to Osaka, Japan's second city and an extremely vibrant and lively place to stay. There may not be any real 'tourist' sights but it is just the life on the streets that makes Osaka such a fascinating city to visit. Osaka people work hard and play hard and it really shows with the vast number of restaurants, bars and all round entertainment available.

It is also home to Universal Studios Japan, and I’ve booked tickets for my clients to enjoy this fantastic theme park for a day, before they fly home from a honeymoon they will never forget!

This week I am working on an incredible trip to India for some clients who want to see wild tigers, stay at a hill station, cruise the backwaters of Kerala and relax at the beach. They also have a keen interest in Ayurveda and yoga. This is the holiday I have put together for them:

They will fly to Mumbai and connect on to Jabalpur before heading to Bandhavgarh for a stay at Kings Lodge with tiger safaris included.
After 3 nights in Bandhavgarh, they will be driven back to Jabalpur for their flight to Cochin. From here they head to Windermere Riverhouse on the banks of the Periyar River for a night before continuing to their hotel in the hills of Munnar for a few days.
Their driver will then take them to their Deluxe Houseboat where they will spend an afternoon cruising the Backwaters of Kerala before spending the night onboard. Finally, they will head to the beautiful Marari Beach Resort for a few days of relaxation before their flight back to the UK.

Their trip includes:

🐅 4 safaris by exclusive jeep in Bandhavgarh National Park
🌱 Visit to a tea plantation and tea factory in Munnar
🚘 All transfers, sightseeing tours and excursions as per the itinerary will be by an air-conditioned Toyota Innova Crysta or similar car
☕ Services of an English speaking local guide during sightseeing tour of Munnar
🐅 An English speaking local naturalist during the safaris in Bandhavgarh
🎟️ Sightseeing and Entrances as per itinerary
✈️ Travel Counsellor representative for assistance on all arrival and departure transfers with meet and assist
📲A cell phone with local SIM for the length of stay in India
🧺 Mineral water and picnic hamper in the vehicle during long drives

So much fun catching up with friends and colleagues and dancing until the small hours.
I'm excited to see my kids (and to have an early night 😂) and to take everything I've learned to make 2025 my best year as a TC yet 🎉

A few months ago a lovely couple asked for my help planning their honeymoon around Italy and Greece, including Venice, Florence, Athens and ending in Corfu for some beach time.

I asked them to let me know how they got on and have had the loveliest feedback 😍

"Hi Lisa,

Yes got back last night thank you.

It was truely magical, we couldn't have had a better time.

Florence is stunning, the hotel was so cute and the owner had some great recommendations for us.
Walking to the Forte di Belvedere for a drink and view over Florence is incredible, we also did the Boboli Gardens at the same time, these are an incredible sight. I think doing these really made Florence memorable and would recommend.

The wine tasting in the chianti hills is definitely the best excursion we have done, everyone involved was amazing, the first half really captured the beauty and the second half was really educational about wine tasting.

We definitely plan to go back to Florence.

Venice is an incredible place, definitely the busiest and most expensive place we visited.
The hotel was really lovely, a great choice.
Venice is definitely a must do, we thought 3 days is enough time to do everything.

Athens is mesmerising, a very diverse city with some stunning sights.
The south of the city is amazing. We loved the Acropolis, it was a brilliant experience, loved every minute of it. The temple of Zeus isnt much to see, however we also did the Temple of Hephaestus, this was also brilliant and would recommend.
Again 3 days felt like enough time, this is something we would likely revisit. The hotel was lovely, though we might stay further South next time.

We were breathtaken with Domes of Corfu, and didnt leave the resort for the 3 days. It was the most perfect way to finish the honeymoon, we are already looking at the possibility of returning here next year.

I stayed at this amazing hotel a few years ago and still picture the beach here when I think of paradise! The jungle comes down to the sand, so you have monkeys swinging past your balcony and you can kayak around the most incredible tranquil bay right by the hotel. Cholita Wrestling - latest addition to my travel wish list :)
My client Sam is in La Paz, Bolivia and told me she was going to see this today. I'd never heard of it, but it looks brilliant!

"Bolivia’s cholitas luchadoras first began practicing their craft in the early 2000’s when a group of women in El Alto created a circle of luchadoras inspired by Mexico’s lucha libre style of wrestling. This circle was partly for recreation and entertainment, but also partly as a way for women who suffered domestic abuse to take out their frustration and stress. Later, the Titanes del Ring league decided to introduce women fighters as a way to boost ticket sales and gain publicity, and invited these practiced women to join".

I have wonderful memories of this magical theme park from my childhood and still love it now. There's an enchanted forest filled with musical toadstools and all your favourite fairytale characters, plus some very special indoor rides such as the Droomvlucht (Dream flight) where you fly through a series of magical worlds. Plus all the epic roller-coasters and other thrill rides some crazy people apparently like 😁.
