Singing and Teaching for 40 years and Loving it each and every day.
Music Background and Teaching Qualifications: I grew up in a very musical family. My father, George Lynn, was a composer, conductor, organist and voice teacher. My mother Lucile, passed away in 2013 at age 92, taught music history and voice. I started piano lessons at age five and continued to study through college. In fact, piano was my major at Loretto Heights College where I earned my B.A.
I started studying voice in college, and went on to get my Masters of Music degree at Temple University in Philadelphia with a major in opera and voice performance. While I was working on my degree, I supervised voice classes for music majors who were studying other instruments; taught piano and voice lessons at private music schools and freelanced as a costume designer, wardrobe mistress and stage manager for various opera companies and music academies in the Philadelphia area. I heard many world class singers ‘up close and personal’, including Luciano Pavarotti, during my two seasons working as a stage manager at the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
After I finished my Masters degree, I returned to Colorado and began teaching private voice, music history, introduction to the arts, and various performance classes at my alma mater, Loretto Heights College. After the school closed, I went on to teach at Metropolitan State College in Denver, and I went back to school to get my Doctor of Musical Arts at CU-Boulder. I studied with a wonderful teacher there named Barbara Doscher, and I learned even more about how the voice works by studying the anatomy and physiology of the voice. After I completed my degree, with a major in Voice Performance and Vocal Pedagogy, I taught on the voice faculty at CU-Boulder for several years, and taught Music Appreciation courses to non-music majors as well.
I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for forty years, specializing in college audition preparation and strategies for defeating stage fright. Former students have found success performing in regional musical theatre and opera companies, Disney World, cruise ships, and teaching in public schools. MOST IMPORTANTLY, singers who study with me develop a solid vocal technique and an ability to sing expressively.
