For many women around the world there are laws and cultural assumptions that place them in a diminished
capacity within their communities. They are often subjected to roles that do not give them a full voice in the conduct of their lives and those of their family. They may be abused through civil strife, human trafficking, cultural norms and/or customs. Young people who experience a low level of s
elf-worth often experience low academic achievement, juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, eating disorders, violence, depression, and su***de. This does not aid in building a peaceful world … or a productive community. This reality impacts societies around the world and here in the United States. Helping those who hold diminished perceptions of their self-worth is essential to community-building. Heightening one’s self-esteem (feelings of self-worth) provides the platform to behave in ways that demonstrate value for self and others leading to building opportunities of positive, interpersonal relationships and communities thus opening channels for constructive engagement of those we encounter. This is the foundation for a healthy, successful fulfilled community. DOLLS MAKE PEACE is a global movement of forums on women’s concerns, doll-making, teas, and exchanges that will create a circle of peace in our communities that extends throughout the world.
