Whew! We're BACK! A week of fun in the sun was AMAZING! Carnival Cruise Line The Jubilee never disappoints. The first port of call was Roatan (Mahogany Bay). This is the view as you "fly".... well more like cruise through the sky from the skylift shuttle.

As I bring chapter 49 of my life to a close, I am taking a moment to reflect. This year has been a year of learning in my businesses. That being said, I am taking those lessons, and putting them into action. One of the ways that I am doing that is to let no opportunity pass me by. It is no secret that as empty nesters, my hubby and I love to travel. Having children on both coasts has given us "reasons" to include travel itineraries that we probably would have otherwise passed on. Neither New York nor Hollywood were on the top of any list I previously had until actually going. Having been able to travel frequently has afforded me opportunities to experience different cultures, gain a greater appreciation for nature, and a desire to share our adventures. Which brings me to the Mahalo Travel Group! Yes, we have made the decision to add travel to the scope of services that we offer. So, you can stay tuned to see where in the world we turn up next, or we can help you get out and see the world for yourself!

Today is Juneteenth! It is a celebration near and dear to us, but you may not know EVERYTHING about the holiday. While Galveston is known as the last place that slaves were freed, the holiday and term Juneteenth originated in Limestone County, Mexia to be exact. The term was used to encompass the celebration of freedom across the span of 3 days, June 17th, June 18th, AND June 19th... hence, the term Juneteenth. On Monday, June 19th, 1865 at 10:00am, the slaves on the Logan Stroud plantation were informed from the porch that they were indeed free. Freedmen bought 30 acres of land at Comanche Crossing. Lake Mexia now covers 10 acres of the original site, but every year, people come from far and wide to celebrate on the remaining 20 acres. The next time you want to visit a place rich in history around this holiday, consider Mexia, Texas.
Growing up, this is a place that I visited every year. My grandparents owned land just outside of Mexia in Coolidge, Texas. We share a great appreciation for this land, and what it means to our people.
