Well we decided during lock down to give Moonstone Villa a little TLC. That was three months ago the project has turned into a full on renovation. We went through all of our guest feedback over the years and decided to implement all their suggestions. We also discovered a fair few problems along the way so we are really glad we started it. The interior aims to be lighter brighter and colorful reflecting our hopes for 2021 creating a beautiful rustic beach feel with all the comforts. We will post more as the design takes shape. Keep safe everyone.

We reached a very special milestone this week in delivering our first private wedding ceremony at Clipper Villa. It was an honour for us to be trusted with such a special occasion for this lovely couple. We think the photos speak volumes of the success of the proceedings. We wish them every happiness for their future together.

The Clipper has landed.

Clipper Villa has now been completed apart from a few little bits of panache. We are very excited to welcome our first guests shortly. We would like to thank all of our guests for supporting us over 2017 and wish everyone a Happy Christmas from the Kew Villas team.

Nearly There.

The final stages of our new offering to old and new customers. Clipper Villa is on schedule for our first guests arriving 20th December 2017. We will be offering discount for January to March. The villa is currently available to book through Air B&B.

We start the furniture installation this week and will be posting pictures on the run up to Christmas.

We haven't done a posting for a while as we have been secretly working on our new villa to add to the Kew portfolio in Sri Lanka. We are very excited as this new villa will be our flag ship property building on the experience we have gained over the last five years listening to our guests and learning what dream villa they would like to stay in. So here you go. The villa will be named in November and open for business in December 2017.

Great day at Kew Villas today as we celebrated our local Perahera festival thankfully organised by our local Temple. The procession was a blaze of colour and smiles as always in Sri Lanka.

Firstly we would like to thank all our guests for making 2016-2017 our best year so far. We as a family business believe in investing for the future and after a successful two years we are reinvesting all profits into green energy. Climate change is already effecting people around the world and here in Sri Lanka we are on the front line as seen in the recent floods. We are setting a target for 2020 that Kew Villas will be completely carbon neutral. Today we have started phase one of installing over 200 solar panels on our villas.

Kew Villas to sponsor exciting arts event in Galle 13-14 January 2017.

Event organizers Dom Mee, Grace Wickremasinghe and Micheal McEvoy met in Colombo to make final arrangements for Sri Lanka's first Art Fringe event that will run alongside the official Galle Literary Festival 13-14 January 2017.

The landmark festival aims to give a platform for up and coming writers, poets, performing artists and musicians to raise their profile to an international audience.

Dom Mee founder and co-sponsor said "This is a great opportunity for artists from all mediums to come together at the first fringe. I believe this festival will become a Sri lankan Woodstock in the coming years".

Micheal McEvoy from MERCMARINE Training commented "We are is honoured to be able host the Literary Fringe Festival in our picturesque and unique training establishment in Galle. We firmly believe in supporting local authors and artists and we are delighted to be part of this excellent initiative".

Grace Wickremasinghe the Festival Curator for the said "This is going to be a really special event for all artists of Sri Lanka to be a part of. I am so excited to be part of the organisation team".

The Cockerel Fringe is totally free for artists to participate and free to the general public. It will be located next to the main gate to Galle Fort in MERCMARINE Training Centre.

Its great to see the super yachts returning Galle. We enjoyed the company of five super yachts in the bay this week. Galle is fast becoming the Monaco of Sri Lanka.

The whole town is looking forward to the start of the Galle Literary Festival 13th January. After a couple of years of absence the festival is back with authors coming from all over the world to take part including some great home grow talent from Sri Lanka. Dom the owner of Kew Villas is also debuting with his first book 'Kiting the Hurricane'. He will be book signing 16th January at Orchid House between 11am to 1pm

Its that great time of year when the lovely lobster are in season fresh off the beach. Our Chef's seafood BBQ's are proving to be a massive hit with our guests.

The Fishermen are back.

We know when the monsoon is finally over when the fishermen return to launch their boats from the beach. The dropping of the sea level is really visible from our last post at the end of August. The beach expands with golden sands from the ocean. Pitiwella essentially translated in English means Flour. This was the ancient name given to the beach due to the sand being so fine like flour.

In Sri Lanka we don't have four seasons like in the northern hemisphere. We have two seasons the SW Monsoon and the NW Monsoon. In the SW Monsoon May to September we experience higher sea levels as you can see from the photos. Moonstone Villa path instead of going down to the beach now has the ocean lapping at the bottom steps. I have observed many of our guests sitting on the steps letting their thoughts drift out to sea. Its a lovely spot to sit in the evening to watch the remains of the day.

It has been a busy time behind the scenes at Kew for the last six weeks the villas have been shut down for maintenance. It is very important to us to make sure we keep up the high standard of our accommodation, which have earned us great reviews by our guests. In between all the hard work by the team we were treated to Mihindu Perahara conducted by Sri Jayawardhanarama Vilhara in our village of Pitiwella. It was a wonderful spectacle this annual event seems to get bigger every year. Looking forward to next year already

Last weekend we celebrated the event of Lord Buddha’ born, Enlightenment and Parinirvana (passed away)on Vesak Full Moon day. This is a very important religious holiday in Sri Lanka. It is also a lovely time to visit as the whole town is decorated with Lanterns for week and everybody enjoys the spectacle.

The season is now moving towards the Monsoon where we experience the most beautiful tropical sunsets from our beach.

They Hatched! 49 days and 4 hours. We where starting to lose hope as we had the biggest high tide of the year in March and feared the nest had been swamped. A big nest with 92 little guys all safely deployed to the Indian Ocean. They start there amazing journey and maybe the females will come back in 20 years.

Wow after our last batch of baby turtles hatched last Saturday we were visited by another female Green Turtle last night. A lovely treat for our guests to witness these amazing creatures in the wild .The Kew Villas team will now insure they are protected until they hatch in around 45 days.

After 48 Days our Green Sea turtles start their amazing journey and hopefully in 20 years these females will return to us to lay their own batch of eggs.
